Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System

1 Answer

Refrigerator has gone warm

I have a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator (model#ED5FTGXKQ01), which has gone warm over the past several days. I hear what I believe to be the relay clicking under the unit, it then sounds like somthing has come on. About ten seconds after you hear the initial on click, you hear the click again as if it is in shutdown mode? I would prefer to do the repair myself, and I can probably get the parts for cost. I do have mecanical ability, but never repaired a refrigerator myself. If it is the compressor that needs to be changed, would basic hand tools be enough to get the job done?

First you need to evacuate the system by tapping it with a valve, then you cut out the compressor tubes and disconnect the wires. Braise the connections on the new one, run the vacuum pump and put new refrigerant, check for proper operation and temperature. Without proper tools might be difficult !!

Fridge not getting cold, making clicking sound - Whirlpool EDSFTG

remove the rtc overload off the compressor and shake it,if it rattles thats your culprit, also if when its running and the compressor is quite warm to the touch, its only running on the start windings and isnt actually running right and will overheat and ruin the compressor, replace the rtc its cheaper than a new compressor

Turns off won't turn back on unless you move thermostat

Sounds like a defective cold control ( off/on thermostat).
They will tend to stick in the off position. Your moving the knod unsticks it.

The refrigerator makes a buzzing sound for a few seconds and then stops.

It is very possibly the fanblade either touching the side of the cowling or some ice.

Whirlpool refrigerator gold conquest shuts off

Start at the basics; shut off, and then remove front grill and if necessary, back covering(s). Vacuum and/or blow compressed air into condenser fins, including coils in the back; especially paying attention to piping that looks to expand or balloon, clean these carefully with a rag and warm water to remove grime; retry. If issue continues, turn up your front thermostat to see if you start to hear continuing clicking sounds from the back, if so that may be your overload switch going bad, in which requires replacing. ee
