Will not scan to ocr

OCR can work on any Scanner, I Believe that the Software is what converts to OCR. I Have A CanoScan N659U. Using Microsoft Office Document Imaging software scanned 150 sheets of genealogy that I do not have to retype. OCR has been around sense about 1928 however, not until about 1974 was the principal used with Flatbed scanners. They do have a few Open source OCR scanning software's available, and they have serval online OCR services. I Prefer the MicroSoft Office 2007 Document Imaging Software myself.

To scan documents for editing and saving as PDF file, you will need to install the Lexmark OCR scan software on your computer. The Lexmark scan software (no downloadable version) is only available on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.

To install the OCR scan software from the printer installation CD:

1. Insert CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the installation screen open, click Cancel.
2. Double-click on My Computer / Computer.
3. Right-click on Lexmark XXXX CD and select Open.
4. Double-click on OCR.
5. Double-click on Setup.exe to install the OCR software. Your operating system will then determine the language in which it is installed.

The function to do OCR scanning will be part of whatever scanning software you are using with this printer. Probably some scanning software came with the printer. If it doesn't have OCR capability , you'll have to use some third-party software. Just Google OCR software.

On OCR software we can only scan a full text documents. Document that doesn't have any line, image, graphic. Try to scan a full text document and check if that will work.

The Lexmark OCR scan software is available in the installation disk that came with the printer. You can explore the installation disk and look for the Abby setup application in the OCR folder (for Windows). For Mac OS, right-click on the Install icon and choose Show Package Contents. Open Contents folder > open Package folder and manually install the Abby Finereader application.

Sometimes companies only support only the basic drivers. The OCR software is on the CD (s) that came with the printer. Suggestion. Try to order the original CD from Lexmark., or search Ebay for programs that have OCR capability. You can use OCR programs from other vendors as long as they are stand-a-lone programs. Just make sure you have the original disc so as not to infringe on copyright privileges.

Note: you can buy OCR programs. Check Ebay and Amazon. They are usually better that the programs that come on the OEM disk.

Most of the time a scanner by default, will scan a document in a tif or other image file format. That means that the scanned image is actually very similar to a photograph. In order to edit the text, you first have to convert the image using something that's called OCR software. OCR is a process that the software uses to look at a scanned document image and determine what characters are on the page. It's not always very accurate but that depends on the quality of the scan and on the OCR software being used. You must have received some sort of scanning software with the scanner. Hopefully it containes some sort of OCR software. Some scanners will save you this extra image manipulation by having a setting that allows you to scan directly to a word document. Usually in that configuration, the OCR software automatically knows to convert the scanned document image in order to automate the process. choose the x1240 in the driver box.......then search
choose windows vista from the operating dropdown box.......
click on download now and then install the new driver.....
