Maybe sometimes it is the battery do you have 2 batteries you can check it with if it charges the other then its just the battery .If you have a local industrial distributor in the area usually they can test it for you

Greetings Gurus. I have Makita charger model DC18RC, battery model is 18v BL1815...manual is of limited help. I'm trying to understand what the indicator lights mean, what the time is for charging,

I agree that the pictographs are not very helpful. You probably have one of the new chargers. I have an old one, which is a little easier to figure out.

From top to bottom

1. The flashing green light with the electric plug indicates that the unit is plugged in and ready to go.
2. The flashing red little fan means that the battery is too warm so it is just cooling it and not charging it at that moment.
3. The solid red empty battery outline means that it is charging but hasn't got very far, less than 80% full.
4. The mostly full battery outline with both solid red and green lights at the same time means it is 80% full or more
5. The full battery outline and solid green with the musical notes means it is full up.
6. The broken battery outline with flashing red and green means you've got a broken battery.
7. The yellow light with the wrench means the charger is "conditioning" the battery, whatever that means.
8. The yellow light with the fan means "cooling abnormality."

Hope this helps

Makita bl1830 charges but stays on static red light

Chargers have been known to lie about what they are indicating. Even though you say the batteries were charged only a hanful of times, they may, in fact, have expired

I bought a new highter current ni cad for my makita; however, the

As long as the charger voltage and the battery voltage match (7 volts) there should be no problem. A fast charger just runs more current thru the battery (per unit time) than a not-so-fast charger. If you notice the battery getting really hot when it's charging (like too hot to touch), stop using it.

Do you have a second battery to check whether the fault is with the drill or the battery?
If you have more than one battery and you experience power loss with both, confirm that the charger is charging properly by using a different charger, if possible.
Sounds like it might be time to purchase a new battery. You could take it to a local Makita distributor and try a fresh battery to see if that does it, but after time even these rechargeable batteries need to be replaced.
I'd say that's the culprit 90+% of the time.

DC18SC CHARGER NOT WORKING

If you have an older charger with a model number that has "RA".
That is the problem. Their were some issues with that charger.
It has been replaced with a model that has a "S" at the end.

Contact Makita. Those batteries are under warranty.
