Unplug the television, wait for 60 seconds. Then re-insert plug into the
mains socket and turn on the television again.

Your TV has a protective mode in case there is too much heat build-up.
Verify the clearance around the vents of the device to be certain there
are no blocking walls or cabinets which would limit the air flow.
If all above are OK, check the back light inverter board. For more details, visit this site 'Electro-help". It is an electronics equipments service help site. Google for it.

Black vertical line

This seems to be a problem with some older panels. If you are prepared to tackle the problem yourself then try the following.
WARNING there are some very high voltages within the TV which can be LETHAL so the greatest of care should be taken.

With the back of the TV removed, use a hair dryer and apply warm air to all the ribbon cables in turn until you find the one which causes the fault to disappear. Now turn your attention to the faulty ribbon and remake the connections as necessary.

I can turn on the tv and it's fine for about 20 min then the screen goes black with sound. I turn it off for a minute and it's fine for another 20 min. Like it's overheating.

It might also be a bad solder connection, short of checking voltages what I have done in this type of situation is with back off use a small fairly high speed fan - a hair dryer set to cool works, to cool areas of the boards inside to localize which board is causing this, with the set in failure, got it? it goes out cool it with a handheld hair dryer with air set to cool, when you find the spot where the problem is it will either instantly come back or try to.

Do it a few times to confirm which board is bad and locate a replacement board and swap it out.

My tv comes on but left side is black & after about 20 mins. the whole thing goes black. you can still hear it, but cant see the picture

If its a LCD it uses two inverter type boards---if a Plasma two sustain or similar boards= in either case one drives the picture on each half of the screen.

To find out what your set uses Google the full model number with "parts" and look for example for shopjimmy.com who will have a list of the boards used and prices.

I have a 46 inch flat screen Sanyo tv. The left side of turns goes black on & off. If you pull back on the tv it clears up temporaily but when I let go it still flickers black.

Check the caps in the High Voltage section. The voltage needed to ignite the gas to inside your screen to illuminate the whole screen is being depleted before it has a chance to light up your screen. The problem will be in the capacitors in your set.

TV has gone into "protect mode" to do just that to protect against the damaging failure that has been detected, you will need a servicer to diagnose the failure. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

I had a similar problem and got a TV repair man to fix it for real cheap. The whole fixing took less then 30 min and he goes to your house to fix the TV. He fixed it for an excellent price that left us astonished. He lives in NY. Email me if anyone needs his contact information. You wont be disappointed.
