Question about Dell E176FP 17" LCD Monitor
Have you tried the "function key + F8 key" since that usually is the key combo you press to switch between built in LCD and external monitor on a Dell laptop.
Worst case scenario would probably be some type of driver setting or resolution setting might be to high. and in that case you can try system restore (with the monitor connected of course) to the day it was working and see if the setting go back to that time...
This solution is the easiest one to try since you can always undo the restore operation if it doesn’t resolve the issue
