Question about NEC Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My Dad bought a NEC 1700v Monitor about 5 years ago. Its a good monitor and the picture/color is still good but it blacks out after it shows desktop for about 10 seconds. To get it to come back on, can either turn it off and on again or re-apply video settings but it continues to turn off again after another 10 seconds. I've tried it with other computers/laptops and different monitor cords and don't believe that is the problem. I read some reviews on this particular model and this seems to be a common problem. Bad wiring/circuit I'm guessing is the problem (read maybe even badly placed capacitors?). Is there anyway to replace a few of the components that might make it a quick/cheap fix?

I also read that the inverter boards in this model usually are the source of the problem. Would it be worth it replace it? If so, where would be the best place and how can I go about finding the correct part? Thanks for any input.

This is a CRT monitor right? Do not open the case! There is high voltage stored in a capacitor somewhere in there and you could get zapped. You can buy good used monitors at Goodwill or a computer re-cycler for $20.00. If yours lasted five years you got your moneys worth. Did this monitor work correctly on other computers? If it did maybe you have a problem with your graphics card or something in the computer itself. Try a different monitor on your computer. If everything is OK with a different monitor then you know that your computer is good and that is not the problem.

Px42XR3A, NEC monitor lost picture of any type after showing a series of color bands from all sources. No other set in the house is affected and the sound through the receiver is just fine.

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since the power or button is on and sound and other things are fine, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity or any service center to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

You need to check VGA cable connections at both ends, check video card to make sure it is seated properly in to the PC slot, etc. Try this monitor with other PC as well.

The only I can think of is the resolution setting that your T400 is putting out that your NEC does not like andcannot display, look at the T42 resolution when the NEC is hooked up to it and try to set it to be the same in the T400.

NEC multiSync 1700V as external monitor for Notebook Toshiba U205, Operating System Window Vista Home Premium. It displays only part (80%) of the picture compared with notebook's monitor.

Hi, if the 17 inch lcd screen is not a widescreen then the problem with the screen is possibly nothing more than the aspect ratio or resolution, which ever way you wanna look at it. All laptops have a widescreen type of ratio, so you will have to be either willing to change the resolution when you switch screens or setup different profiles, which you should beable to do through control panel, appearance and then personalization, you will then have access to it.

Multisync LCD 1700V turns on then screen goes blank and shuts off

Does the power light stay on? If so, you have an inverter problem. If the power light goes off, you have a power supply problem.

Try shining a flashlight on the screen, or without the flashlight, try to see if you can distinguish anything on the screen at all, if you do, the backlight is dead, or the monitor has an internal most likely unfixable problem.

ViewSonc VX924 LCD Monitor

Check the information at Viewsonic's website regarding their warranty:

http://www.viewsonic.com/support/warranties/limited-warranty/

If you have your proof-of-purchase and it shows the monitor is less than a year old, it would be covered. You would need to follow the procedure on their website to have the unit repaired or replaced, but it would not be your job to try to fix it.

Nec 700 crt

Not a solution at all, but I'll post that I have a NEC MultiSync FE700 monitor that I purchased back in 2001, and have I been using the monitor since that time. Lately the monitor has been showing signs of 'acting up'. I read on the Internet that CRT monitors generally have a working life of about six years. It may be, depending on years of use, that the monitors are just reaching the end of their life.
