The iPod CD is just the programs neccesary to run an iPod. You can download these programs for free at apple.com/downloads by downloading itunes, it will make available the programs to run the ipod by plugging in the ipod to your computer.
Have you tried installing the ipod program cd from your ipod on a separate file. Under a different username? It may be conflicting with the older model ipod protocols. If that dosen't work try going to apple.com for further assistance.
Basicly you simply need the itunes, and then your music, witch is on your ipod and your itunes account? so I think you simple have to install itunes, login, plug the ipod in and everything should work as before. Might be a bit difrent if the itunes program has been updated from your previous version.
I think you can order a new cd from apple if you need one.
