All because it comes up to a blue screen is not a definite reason to assume a virus. Many system corruptions and bad drivers can cause this problem.

During startup press the F8 key before Windows try's to boot. Choose the option "Last Known Good Configuration" and see if that helps.

Use your supplied recovery discs to reboot. If you do not have the discs and were supposed to burn them on initial setup, you will have to contact dell online to get discs (from another computer obviously)

Won't load Desktop

Is this running XP? Does the computer shut down or just go back to the welcome screen and ask for your password again?

If it returns to the welcome screen (and it is XP) get the following two files from another xp machine and copy them to the windows\system32 folder.

userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe

Restart the computer and log back in.

Hope this helps

Hi there.
you have a Win32 virus active on your computer, there is nothing you can do about this apart from recovering the system with a cd or the recovery partition.

good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

My computer caught a virus

Yes this is an unfortunate virus that has attacked your system at this time. you can clear all partitions and reinstall the entire operating system. this will bring back the OS but, you will lose all info that was stored in the partitioned drives. You can do this by inserting the xp or vista disk then, restart the system and before the dell bios flash gos away, hit f4 then, choose boot disk. this will start the reinstallation of the OS again.
