Outback Bike Rack Side Straps?

Acquired older 3 bike trunk-mount Outback (Graber) bike rack. It has upper and lower straps to mount to trunk, but no side straps. I can see metal brackets that look like it would hold one large strap. Anyone know where I could purchase the strap & clips? OR if it would be safe just to use my own ratcheting nylon bungie strap (if i can find one narrow enough to slide through clips)?

SOURCE: Honda CR-V 2011 installation of Bell 2 bike rack. Where do I attach lower straps? No metal, only plastic

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get some foam insulation used for a/c pipes.

Get some socks and cut off the toe end.

Put the insulation inside the sock and run the strap through the insulation.

Position the sock/insulation on the bumper to protect the paint.

This design is pretty much universal. Is there anything unusual about YOUR frame (very small, for example)? It may just be incompatible with your frame. The picture on this post is the style that uses TWO straps with the assumption you have two braze-ons. V-brakes might be in the way of them. Older or MTB racks have a center-support option for the once ubiquitous center-mount that also supports a fender.

A hardware store can supply the longer screws. Take one with you as a sizer. They're metric. Get stainless steel and consider aircraft nuts that won't vibrate loose.

Wrap the shock cords (or bungee) around the bike frame and back onto the rack. Buy a pedal sock, and extra bungees also. Tie the extra ends to the rack itself so that they are not flapping around. A bicycle dealer will be glad to teach you all about it.

Just installed the schwinn hitch rack 3 on the hitch of our vehicle. How to we fasten bicycles on rack? men'a AND women's bikes.

For the ladies model you need an adapter bar to make it like a mans model. , mens, you just set arms on the bike's top bar and bungee it or if it has straps use them. Make sure that your pedals do not scratch your trunk by either buying foam pedal blocks or wrap and tape them. Put the womans bike on first.

How to mount a Bell bike rack on a 2001 Chev Blazer which has a glass window completely covering the upper section of the rear hatch.

The picture in the manual for this typical rack shows it mounted on an SUV with the upper support right on the glass hatch. If you think about it, there isn't really an forward horizontal force on the loaded rack.

Here's a picture of it.

I contacted Bell Sports and complained about the lack of downloadable manuals. They said they are in the process of developing the website which will provide them.

http://www.bellbikestuff.com/

It has some basic stuff about helmets and tire changing right now. Stay tuned and check it once in a while.

In the meantime, they sent me the manual for the Doubleback/Tripleback Car Rack in English since that was the one I used as an example.

If you post your email to this solution I will be notified and will send it to you.
