Did you ensure that the SATA cable is connected ok from the HD to the motherboard, on the appropriate sockets?
If it's ok, try looking at the bios configuration

HARD DRIVE NOT EXIST ERROR!!!

If you installed Linux successfully on your hard disk then the hard disk is OK.
If you are installing Windows Xp and it does not detect the hard disk but the BIOS detects the hard disk then -
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

I would like to install windows xp on the hp hdx9150. But Sata disks are not recognised. So i find a driver for that, i can give to the systeme with touh F6 , wind cd-rom windows xp bigin to install

Hi,

According to your problem first check the hard drive status and make sure that it is ok. If it doesn't detect in bios setup then you can change the cable of the hard drive. Also make sure that the DVD Rom working fine. If the hard drive doesn't detect while you begin setup then clear the bios first. Then reset the bios properly. You may need a firmware update also. If you can not continue the setup then break the partition of the hard drive. You can use partition break up software, like partition magic etc also. If it doesn't solve your problem then you may need to replace the hard drive. To check the hard drive status you can try with another OS installation. Best of luck.

It is required to install the hard disk SATA drivers in the computer first. Download and extract the SATA drivers in a floppy drive, hard drive or CD on a different computer. Then, retsrt the computer by having the Windows XP disc inserted and beging the setup. During the setup process press the F6 key and enter>enter and then install the SATA drivers. Then, continue with the further setup process.

Hi Iam trying to install a SATA2 Samsung HM320II 320GB disk drive on my lenovo 3000 N200 Laptop but when I turn the computer on it says "FIXED DISK 0:" What do I need to do to resolve this...

The BIOS in your laptop has detected the SATA hard drive as "Fixed Disk 0" this is normal.
If you are trying to install Windows XP on this laptop, XP will not detect this hard drive because it does not have the SATA driver included in the XP installation CD.
For instruction on installing XP on your laptop with a SATA hard drive, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

The Gateway M465-e is only compatible the SATA hard disk drives. If the drive you are using is not a SATA drive, then it will not be able to work with your hard drive.

Bought HP Pavilion dv2910tx,not able to install Windows XP. Help

If the install cannot detect the hard disk then the hard disk is faulty and needs replacing or the disk controller is faulty.
You can check if the hard disk is faulty by :-
Go into the BIOS and check if there a hard disk diagnostic.
If not then remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port.
If this computer see it as an external hard drive and you can view the contents of the drive then it is OK and the fault is the disk controller on the laptop.
To setup XP.
You insert the Windows CD and boot up the laptop with the CD.
You have done this correctly to get the hard disk error message.

Problem in XP installation in the HP presario Note book

Sata hard disk does not require driver, however the sata controller which belong to any manufacturer may require. You have to go to driver cdrom, browse for IDE OR SATA if you cannot find it the clue is "RAID" find the RAID driver, you will also find the sata controller driver
example only: si3112.cat, si3112.inf, siblabla.bla....

copy all the files in folder (do not copy folder!! only files). Then put floppy disk in drive, make sure you boot from cd-rom.

Start XP installation then follow:
Press F6 for third party SCSI or driver installation at the beginning of text mode installation. Press 's' when setup asks if you want to specify an additional device, and insert the diskette then press 'Enter'. From the menu presented next, select the controller installation process that corresponds to the version of Windows being installed and press 'Enter'.
4. Press 'Enter' again when prompted to continue on with text mode setup.

5. Follow the setup instructions to select your choice for partition and file system.

6. After setup examines your disks, it will copy files from the CD to the hard drive selected above and restart the system. After restart the setup process will resume to finish the installation.

Good Luck

Installation of windows xp on a preloaded windows vista laptop

See this , you have to download the SATA driver , as you have a SATA hard disk , then slipstream it into the xp installation package.

Alternatively , put the driver on a floppy and press F2 when prompted during the setup when its loading all the files (It says Press F2 if you want t o install a SATA Driver"

Then it will detect your drive and install as normal :D
