Re: oven giving me a f-10 message
Although I am not familiar with this model, it sounds like an overheating problem to me, could be a faulty thermostat, and the error code could be a warning of this.

Your oven will continue to indicate that it is preheat mode until the thermostat senses the proper set temperature. If you are getting no heat then you will need to address that issue. This could be many things but the most notorious would be the heating element. Could be the control panel as well. Some ovens have a knob for preheat, bake and clean with a separate knob to adjust the temperature. Make sure both are set properly.
sounds like you may have a bad bake element. try to see if the unit will get hot when set to broil. if it does then try the bake again. if you get no red hot heat from the bake element then you may need to replace it. when an element is working properly it will heat to a red hot glow.
does the oven bake properly when it does reach temps? if this is a newer oven, with a hidden bake element, they do take longer to preheat so may not have any problems, just give it about 15 minutes to preheat. if it is older and doesnt bake right, then you may have a bad bake element. the unit will heat but wont bake right. unplug the oven and take the bake element to your local parts house, they can check it and sell you a new one if needed.
I found I have this exact problem. Same bake preheat issue: I can bake if I set broil first. However, the oven doesn't work if I press bake first. The control board has already been replaced a couple times over the years. Is this another replacement??
it is designed to preheat this way. after the unit cycles the red indicator light off the first time than both elements turn off. when it calls for heat again only the bake elements comes on. makes the preheating work faster.
I have just checked the baking guide in the manual and have found that it may not be us after all. (Maybe this is why they telll us to read the whole manual. Well, I never have) According to the cooking time for Baking, the range is very extensive. For example, an angel cake at 350 could take from 28-50 minutes, buscuits at 375-400 could take 8-16 minutes, layer cakes at 350-375 could take 25-40 minutes, pound cakes at 325-350 could take 45-70 minutes and fresh pies at 400-450 could take 35-60 minutes. Basically, the baking directions on the box means absolutely nothing to use Amana oven owners. We have no choice but to cook our food or baked goods until they are cooked, whenever that may be. :) Linda
