Gateway Laptop not charging

My laptop computer will not charge when plugged in. The charger is fairly new and when turned on a blue light appears. As soon as I plug the charger into my computer the blue light starts flashing and a smell comes from the back of my computer

Never noticed a smell from my laptop but I bought my laptop almost 2 yrs now and within the first 6 months I had to replace my wall charger and now about 14 months later I'm having the SAME problem. I'll plug my charger into the wall and it just wont register to my laptop. I'll move it around a lot and once in a while can actually get it to charge but I'll be going onlin tonight to buy yet another charger. I can tell you I won't be buying another Gateway laptop for this reason alone. Never had any problems otherwise but this charger thing is really pissing me off!!!!!!!

What does a orange power light mean

please see the commentary. God bless you

  • The majority of laptops will display a solid green, blue or purple battery light to indicate that the battery is fully charged. Most manufacturers indicate that a laptop is in the process of charging by displaying a solid or blinking green, orange, blue or purple light. If your battery indicator light is green, blue or purple, the battery is probably functional, regardless of whether the light is blinking. If the light is solid orange, the laptop is probably in the process of charging.

Battery Error Coneventions

  • Many battery manufacturers use rapidly blinking lights to indicate that a battery's charge level is low. In general, a laptop will rapidly blink orange or red when its charge drops below a certain level until the computer is plugged into a power outlet and charged. If your laptop's battery indicator continues to blink rapidly in orange or red or if it remains red even when it is plugged into the charger, it indicates a problem with your battery or the charger.

My laptop pavilion dv7 window 7 core i5 stops starting on fir any reason and when I plug it on ac there is a blue which appears and if I press the power button this light becomes orange and the laptop does...

I take it is the HP Pavilion
try to charge the laptop for a couple of hours without switching it on, it might be the battery is completely drained.
the light will change to orange to let you know it is charging, when fully charged it should change to blue and stay blue until you remove charger. you should try to use the your laptop with the charger adapter connected at all times when it easy to do so. I do hope this helps.

I have a new charger cord when plug in back of computer my computer want charge up

Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? Ifnot then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

My Gateway NV5386u battery died and the computer shutdown. When I tried plugging it in, it still would not turn on. The adapter part of the charger has a green light, indicating power is being applied, but...

Often when a battery is real flat, it hangs up the entire system. What you need to do, is remove the battery completely, as the laptop should be able to be powered by the AC adapter itself. You may find if that is the case that your battery has gone bad, and you will have to replace it. If your laptop, will NOT work from the AC adapter, then either the adapter is faulty, or there is an internal vault, in the Power conditioning circuitry inside the PC. Try another adapter, if still no go, then it is definitely an internal problem.
