Question about SanDisk Sansa E280 MP3 Player

Added music, but can't listen

Hello, I have the e280, it works like a breeze and I haven't had a problem up until about 2 days ago.

I added a **** load of songs to the player, they show up in the files section (the one you get to through My Computer/Sansa/Music) and they're taking up the appropriate MB's (I still have 2 gigs of free space).

However, when I unplug the player, wait until its refreshed, and then search for the newly added songs, none of them show up. Even more troubling is that some songs that I've deleted are still showing on the player, in the "Unknown" section, when I try to play them they read "Bad Track" and skip to the next song (this I can live with, but its still wierd).

Also, there are times when I can't view my songs/videos/photos. I've isolated the problem as being that these all become "hidden" upon connecting them to the computer. I've corrected this, only to have it reset to "hidden" upon unplugging and plugging it back in. This is odd, but still I can live with it.

Just wondering if maybe this is at all related.

Basically I need the House of Sansa troubleshooting to look at all of these symptoms and give me a straight, albeit, condescending and thoroughly sarcastic answer.

Thanks in advance!

I experienced a similar problem caused by corrupt files saved on the internal memory of my e280.
(I could not delete/remove the files) I had to format the internal drive of the e280
and re-copy the files back on to the unit. Works great now. When formatting the device
use the command from windows. (ie right click on the internal memory icon and select format)

Note: Formatting will remove/delete all the files (eg music,photos..) from the e280 so make sure that
you have backups.

Cheers

Stucked at Refresh database

When the Sansa reads "refreshing database," what it is doing is going through all the songs you've loaded on to it, pulling out the "tag" information (Artist, Album, Song Title, Genre) so it can add this information to its own database which it uses to display the songs to you in its menus.

If it gets stuck during this process, usually it's because of a corrupt song file, or a song file in a format it doesn't understand.

Note that the e280 is only able to play MP3 and WMA audio formats. If you've loaded a different type of audio file onto your Sansa, you'll need to remove them.

If the songs you've recently loaded have all been MP3 and/or WMA, you may have loaded a corrupted file onto your Sansa. Try removing the songs you recently added, and see if the problem goes away.

My sansa e280 won't allow me to add music. What can i do?

I used the sync tool from Windows Media Player and added the songs i wanted directly to the music folder. I recommend configurating the sync to manual so that only songs that are selected can go into your device. Oh, yeah... i formated the device first. This is just one way i found to be effective; there are other solutions. Hope this helps.

I KNOW I can charge my MP3 player and listen to it at the same time, but I don't know how.

Disabled it under device manager! So that it still draws power from the USB port without attempting to pair with the computer.

My e280 sansa mp3 player is not working.....help please....

There is a problem with the device firmware itself..you can try to reset the player by holding the power button down for 15-20 seconds or until it resets....the latest firmware for the e280 resolved much of the freezing issues....also there are two modes for you to use the e280 the msc and mtp.....try deleting in mtp mode....if that doenst solve it...just go to the sandisk site to get a firmware upgrade done...and that would solve the proplems..

Sansa e280- files added via WMP10 or Windows explorer, but don't show up on player

No limit on the Genres.

If you keep adding music in different modes, Windows Media Player and Windows Explorer will not show the correct free space.

Theres a good chance you have too music music on your device and the device does not have enough free space to create the Database, or the songs, artists, album, etc.

Try deleting a few songs from the device with Windows Explorer and disconnect the player and let it restart.

If that doesnt work, you can FORMAT the device to remove all of the music and start over.

To format in My Computer>Device name (e280)>Right Click and select FORMAT.

Best of Luck.

Formated the SanDisk Sansa E280

You dragged & dropped files in recovery mode? Recovery mode is only for re-installing the firmware or formatting the device if it is unresponsive. If you are wanting to drag and drop files onto the device, the music needs to be put into the Music folder on the device. If you do not see the Music folder, you will need to enable hidden files and folders on your PC. Best of Luck. p.s. - you can add to this question this doesnt work.
