It does have a small macerator however you may need to check the pump motor out and see if there is debris inside.if there is you need to clean it out. also make sure your water temp is 120 degrees and that you are not using to much detergent

I have built in GE Cafe series dishwasher, stainless steel. Quite often it will leave dirt and residual food on dishes. What do I need to look at and/or what fix is there?

In case you do not have the user manual you can download from this site.
Refer page 18 for possible causes of unclean dishes. More often than not it is the drain filter or the kitchen sink drain outlet that is clogged. If you are using a garbage disposer in kitchen sink then make sure it is run before you start the dishwasher.

Hope this helps.

My dishwasher is a frigidaire FDB345LFS2. when we run it, it leaves gritty food patical residue on everything. It is inside cups, in bowls and on the surface of stuff. I have tried every type of...

You have to do a thorough cleaning. You have built up food and maybe some sort of non-food object that cannot be degraded by the disposal and flushed out (mine was a cheese wrapper).
This is going to take about an hour, but you are going to be disgusted and amazed when you see all the stuff that is built up inside. If you are a do-it-yourselfer and have a bit of mechanical inclination, this shouldn't be a problem for you. FYI I'm a 35 year old woman with no appliance experience. But, I do know how to get things CLEAN!
1. Unplug the dishwasher
2. Pull everything out, Dishes, baskets, etc...
2. You will need a hex key to take out the bolts. Most of the various hoses are clipped in. Pull those out gently. Take care to lay things out methodically so you will remember how to put it back together.
Your goal is to get to the disposal under the water blade. My blade is held in by a plastic knob-type screw on top. It's a little tricky to get off. Then, under that will be a couple more hex bolts to unscrew to get to the disposal and drainage of the machine.
Once you get there, you will find all the food and debris that has built up. I've found everything from nutshells to plastic wrappers. If you have a wet-vac, start there and vacumn all the stuff out. Then just use elbow grease and a cleanig solution to clean out all the gunk. While you're in there, spray the insides of the dishwasher and wipe clean.
Put it back together and plug it in. Be disgusted that you were "washing" your dishes in that sludge, but pat yourself on the back for fixing your own problem! :)

I have a kenmore dishwasher. I had it checked out by service and there is nothing wrong with it however it leaves a white film on my dishes. What can i do to stop this?

You may try a different detergent, and this may give you some relief. What works best, in my opinion, is to use the least amount of detergent that you can, and still get the dishes clean. Cut the added detergent in half, and go downwards from there. We are currently using ~25% of the recommended amount, and the dishes clean up very well, with no residue.
Rinsing excess food off of the dishes prevents the soft food disposer in most new models from being overwhelmed, and will increase the overall performance of your machine over several cycles.
Also, using a good rinse agent will help, as will opening the cabinet door after the drying cycle (while still warm), allowing the dishes to continue to air dry.
Hope that this gives you some relief.

Best regards,

Dishes not clean - residue left on dishes and glasses dishwasher cleaner has been used. unit is 9-10 years old

Hi,

Look on YouTube. Type in dishwasher repair, and you will find a number of tutorials that you will find helpful. It sounds like your soft food disposer needs to be cleaned out. Below the screen in the bottom, there are lots of nooks and crannies that can trap residue and recirculate it.
