How do I get the sound from my TV to play through this system?

Most audio receivers have types and several inputs available . The TV will likely have only two types. One will be the standard Red and White RCA connectors. Others may not have the RCA but a 2.5 mm headset connector. Some TV's will have an optical link connection. And a few will have a digital connection. The digital is a single RCA type connector but of a much better quality than the vintage.

The digital and optical; are the highest quality and would be the first choice for best audio/surround/Dolby. The RCA Red and White is next. The 2.5 mm headset is the least desirable.

Some receivers are programmable for the optical and digital inputs. You would need to reference the receiver manuals to determine the setup. The default setup will work but a little trial and error may be required to determine what input goes to what device. ie the DVD might be connected to the TV input (can be a little confusing)?

After connecting the best quality output of the TV into the receiver it is necessary to go into the TV setup menu to turn off the TV internal speakers and I would set the audio output to fixed. The variable output setting can be confusing where both the receiver and TV can set the volume.. The volume will now be set where the receiver can control the volume and not the TV,

Have you gone through your onkyo receivers setup manual. You will most likely need to adjust the settings on your Onkyo receiver. I also have an onkyo reciever and I have to assign the inputs to the video source. Being that you got sound out of the front speakes. I am assuming when you were playing out of the dvd player your reciever was only on stereo sound. Once I get feedback I can assist you further

My receiver will only play mono sound...when i hook up just red/white audio cables to my dtv setting. if i plug both in the sound is almost muted. i can hear sound clearly from one side as i plug one or...

Please clarify this statement: "...when i hook up just red/white audio..". Is that for only the one external source or all?

It's not clear if you tried the red and white cable swap at BOTH ends to isolate the signal loss to the source or the receiver.

The TV's audio controls determine how loud and in what format its audio exits on the RCA cables.

WHY do you need audio from the TV in the first place. If its programming originates at a Cable BOX THAT would be the best place to use as the audio source - and digitally to boot.

Digital sources must be assigned in the receiver setup. It's in the manual.

I have an lg lcd mod#lc427d hdtv how do i hook up an rca rt2280 system to it. i have a dvd player hooked up to tv now using hdmi cables, rca av reciever does not have them...

You can check your dvd player for a coaxial or an optical sound output, then you can plug it directly to your receiver. Those two are the best options after HDMI. Another option is A/V RCA type cable, you´ll need 3 stereo A/V wires, in order to connect the 6 channels. Remember to uncheck the HDMI sound output option on the DVD menu.

I have looked everywhere for the users manual. I am trying to hook up the Duraband surround system to no avail. Could use some assistance

There should be the receiver box on the back are color coded wire plug-ins for the different speaks. Each speaker should be labeled on them somewhere BL, BR, FL, BL, Center, Sub each of the speakers have color coded wires that match those on the back of the receiver. plug them all up accordingly. Then your VCR or TV you would plug the component cables up to the Auxiliary IN jacks.Turn it on and set to Aux to listen to your tv or movies threw your surround sound system.

Optical Dtv sound

Hi, I have located a manual for you, and if you go to Page 41 of the user manual there are instructions on how to select the audio source type - ie your optics from cable box. The best setting is to select AUTO, or manually set for your optical connection. This should solve your lack of audio, if you have any dramas, get back to me here. Good luck
