This is a problem with windows you will need to reinstall you will either need to use the cd that came with your laptop (if one was included) or using the recovery partition. You can learn how to use the dell recovery partition in your user manual.

Download AND install the audio driver. Choose what Windows operating system you are using, first.

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device

The device is the Audio chipset.
The operating system wasn't stated.

(Be sure to restart your computer after INSTALLING audio driver)

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-2200

Using Windows XP for an example;

Scroll down a little, click on the blue Down Arrow to the left of -
Audio (1)

Click on - Download File - to the right.

Single-file download has a Green checkmark in it's small circle.
IF not; click in the small empty circle, to the left of -
Single-file download.

Then click on Continue in the blue oval 'button'.

A small window will come up -
Opening R99254.EXE
Click on Save File.

A small download window will come up.
Allow the file to fully download, then DOUBLE-click right on it.

(If a Microsoft 'squawk box' comes up, ignore it. Click on OK.
Second one? Click on Run)

At the bottom of the 3 small windows, click on Next, Next, and Finish.
If you are not asked to restart your computer, do so.

IF, this doesn't cure the problem, suggest your audio chipset is bad, on motherboard.
Since it is a laptop, NO; there is no replacing a sound card.

joecoolvette

Dell lattitude d620 won't factory restore ?

Hi,

Please go through the below step, you can able to do it.

1) Shut down the Dell Latitude D620 if it's currently powered on. Click "Start" in the left-hand corner of the screen to access Windows' shut down options. Alternatively, press and hold the Latitude's power button, located on the top edge of the laptop's keyboard.

2) Turn on the computer by pressing the laptop's power button.

3) Press and hold "F8" on the top of the laptop's keyboard immediately after turning the computer on. If the Windows logo appears on the screen, you're too late and must repeat Steps 1 through 3 again. If you pressed it in time, a list of text options will appear on the screen.

4) Use your keyboard's arrow keys to scroll down to "Repair Your Computer." Push the "Enter" key on your keyboard.

5) Choose a language from the next list and select "Next." If you've password-protected your laptop, you will be prompted to enter your user name and password at this time.

6) Press "Dell Factory Image Restore." A new window will appear. Click "Next" and select the option for reformatting the hard drive and restoring the factory condition of the laptop.

You can install XP from an original disk if you have one. You will probably have to tell the installer to delete the partition on the drive first. If you are not familiar with this I suggest you read up on installing XP from scratch by Googling it.

I am not able to install Windows XP on Compaq Presario CQ60-104TU

Recommend removing OLD DOS Operating system First. Then Install Windows XP. XP will NOT upgrade older systems unless it's Windows 98 and Fully Updated. However, can NO Longer do because Microsoft does NOT support any versions other than "2000/ME/XP/Vista".
