The garmin is offered in many markets and instructions areavailable in numerous languages, including German, Italian, Spanish andEnglish. If your instructions are in a language other than English, you can usethis article to get started and make a journey.
1 Turn on the garmin using the "on/off" button and tap onthe screen to answer some questions that the garmin will ask you. After you have answered thequestions, the GO will show the "Driving View," which appears in monochromeuntil the GO finds your location. It then transitions to color.2 Place the garmin outside in an open space without tall trees orlarge buildings around you, and the garmin will find the location. It can take up to fiveminutes when starting the garmin for thefirst time. The "Driving View" appears in color when the GO haspositioned itself.3 Tap the screen to launch the main menu and touch"Navigate to" then "Address." Choose between "City Center,""Postcode" and so on. Type the details onto the screen using theletter-pad. When entering directions for Bengies Maryland the garmin would show Benadick Maryland after entering the letters Ben and would not allow a correction.

Not sure about this with these units, but i suspect that what is happening is that when you enter the letters it doesn't lock you out, what it is waiting for is for you to access the directory. There should be a couple of scroll arrows up and down on the right hand side of the town it is showing, scroll down and you will/might see the next town or city that comes next. Hope this helps

When i type in destination, I get map view instead of arrow pointing direction and showing which way to turn ect.I've tried everything to get back to driving directions , follow the arrow in the direction...

depends on which TomTom Go you have (maps preloaded only go700 and go910 no memory card slot)

This is for Go910

Tap Change preferences in the Main Menu.

(When you first start using your TomTom ONE XL, not all the buttons will be shown in the menu. Many buttons and some more advanced features are hidden because you will not need these features very often. To see all of the buttons and features, tap "Show ALL menu options" button in the Preference menu.)

then Tap "Turn off map display" button to turn off the map. Instead of seeing your position on a map in the Driving View, you will only see information about the next instruction.

you can download all TomTom manual

go to tomtom website ----> support scroll down at the right hand side click Find downloads

hope this help

Garmin C 340 problems

I had the same problem and finally found the solution. If you go to "map Info" you will see the version of your preloaded Garmin map database. Well, look carefully because there is a box next to it. Apparently, it needs to be checked or "enabled" before you can use it. Once I did that everything started working. Why this isn't done from the factory is a mystery to me. This should be discussed in the quick start guide IMHO.
