Open the paper output tray (the big door with Canon on it). Look inside and you'll see a tray door with a half circle cut out to put your finger in to pull it down. Put a CD/DVD in the holder and slide it into the slot noting the direction arrow. Open the CD printing software and pictures guide you through the process. Dead easy when you know where to look. I gave up and rang Canon support who were quick and excellent 00800 22 666 767 (free) or 0844 369 0100.

Solution The printer requires attention. Try the following:
* If the printer is connected to a computer, check the computer screen for
* If you are printing a CD label on a CD/DVD, insert the CD/DVD holder in the
CD/DVD tray now.
* If you have a digital camera connected to the printer, check the camera screen
* If the printer is not connected to a computer, check for the following problems:
- Main cover open
- Out of paper
- Paper jam
- Print carriage jammed or stuck
- Print cartridge missing or inserted incorrectly
- Print cartridge tape not removed
- Incorrect print cartridge installed
- Packaging materials are not removed
* If you are unable to solve the problem by using the instructions above, turn off
the printer and unplug the printer power cord. Wait 10 seconds, and then plug
it in again. Turn on the printer.
When you flip the main cover up, and flip the CD/DVD tray down, look at the cartridge color guide label (the colored dots). See the LIGHT CYAN dot? Directly across from that dot around underneath the gray cover is supposed to be a little plastic fin. That fin pushes the sensor switch in the CD/DVD tray to let the printer know if it is open or closed. If it breaks off, then the printer always thinks the tray is open. If it's broken off, you will have to either stick a toothpick or something into the switch, or glue a new thin piece of plastic in its place.
Don't use the HP software that came with this printer as it's ****. What you need to do is go to Mircosoft Work, open a new document, go to Page Setup, Paper and choose paper size as CD/DVD 120mm. Then type whatever you need to do on this document and then when going to print, go File/Print/Properties and choose Print on CD/DVD. Voila, it'll print using the CD holder. enjoy

If the ink light is on steady red, that means the black or color ink cartridge is nearly empty. Obtain a replacement black or color ink cartridge. To know which cartridge is out of ink, check the ink levels using EPSON Status Monitor 3 (Windows) or EPSON Status
Monitor (Macintosh). If you just replaced the cartridges before you got the error light, that means that the replacement cartridge is not recognized by your printer. Please reseat cartridges. Then turn the printer on and off. The cartridges maybe bad also. If the paper light is on steady red, try to reload 10-20 sheets of regular paper into your printer. When printing on CD/DVD, CD/DVD tray is not inserted in the printer. Insert the CD/DVD tray in the printer and press the paper button.Could also be that the printer has loaded more than one sheet of paper at a time. Load paper in the sheet feeder, and then press the paper button to resume printing. If the CD/DVD guide is open, close
the CD/DVD guide, load paper and then press the paper button.

PS: Btw, info for others: For the Canon MX850 I was searching for the
tray feeder itself! For this printer it is inside, i.e. look straight
into the paper output and pull/open softly the black panel...
Disconnect the printer from the computer. Turn it off & make sure the CD/DVD tray is closed then turn it back on.
Here's generic instruction for you:
If you are receiving an error pertaining to the CD TRAY NOT BEING INSERTED CORRECTLY, please do the following:
Recommendations: -Don't force the CD/DVD tray into the printer. -Make sure your printer is powered on, and the output tray is in the upper position. -Please ensure there is at least 3 inches of space behind the printer, or the CD tray may eject.
Included, are the correct CD/DVD loading instructions. Please follow the instructions below:
CD/DVD LOADING: 1. Ensure the printer is powered on. Remove any paper from the sheet feeder. 2. Push in the paper support extension on the printer, and close the paper support. 3. Lay the tray down in the upper position. 5. Place the CD or DVD into the CD TRAY with the white (or printable) side facing up. Note: To print on small 8cm CDs, please place the small CD ring on the tray first, then place the CD inside the ring. 6. Slide the tray into the tray guides located in the output tray. Push in the guide until the arrow on the tray matches up to the arrow on the tray guide. 7. Press the PAPER button to load the CD/DVD into the printing position. The CD is correctly loaded when the printer's POWER button stops flashing.
General tips for CD and DVD printing: -Burn data/video/images onto CDs or DVDs before attempting to print on them. -Do not use thermal-printable or regular CDs or DVDs in the printer. -Moisture or fingerprints on the printable surface of the CD may cause marks or smearing to appear after printing. -All printable inkjet media is different. Some surfaces will absorb ink better than others. If output appears banded, faded, or streaky, print a Nozzle Check pattern to confirm that all colors of ink are printing completely. If the ink does not completely dry or smears after 24 hours curing time, you may need to use the Epson Print CD tools to adjust (lower) the print density. -The only supported resolution for CD/DVD printing is 1440 dpi (aka "Photo") -Borderless printing and printing on the "inner circle" (plastic around central hole) of CDs is not supported. -Do not use the "print preview" feature provided by the Epson printer driver as it will only show the image on a blank field and does not offer a clear indicator of where the image will print. -The Epson Print CD software works best with JPG images and may not import some TIFF images.

Then select 'print'
Get your cd hol;der ready, open the front of the printer, then open the flap with 'Canon' on it
Wait foir screen prompt to insert the holder, with the cd upwards facing and at the end nearest the printer
When prompted, insert it so the 'arrows' on the left and right are flush with the front edge of the flap you just folded down
I have tried to print cd labels on two separate HP C5280 printers, with
no luck. Printer keeps giving me an error message, cd/dvd tray is
open. Printer just doesn't recognize the cd holder. I have
uninstalled and installed the HP driver, spoke to the tech support,
followed their instructions on chat, phone and you-tube, wasted so many
labels, papers and the ink, complained to HP, all waste of time, money
and energy. Please don't buy this product.
