Toshiba DVD ROM SD-M1912 Tray Opens Intermittently or Partially

This DVD-ROM is used in my KiSS DVD player. The problem is opening the tray. Sometimes it opens; other times it doesn't. Sometimes it opens a bit then suddenly the tray is withdrawn into the drive. It may be difficult to find another DVD ROM that fits properly into the player which I reslly like because it has an Ethernet port and plays DivX and XviD. Any ideas?

You may be out of luck As most toshiba drives are made by a differant division of toshiba then what the computers are and most of these drives come as a whole part and the computer divsion at Tosiba dosent even have the schematics for them as like I say they dont fix them they simply replace them as a part in whole. All differant drives will have the same pinout as the drives are interchangable. But before I spent alot of time experimenting I would make sure the drive works in a puter. Good Luck

solution for CD-rom problem: turn CW the second little potentiometer with a tiny screwdriver, just a little and try to read a CD, if it doesnt work then try turn the potentiometer again. the same solution for DVD-rom but with the first potentiometer.

Check the jumper settings in the back of the drive, by the power cable. Make sure your cd/dvd drive is set to SLAVE, with your primary harddrive as MASTER. Check BIOS settings, specifically your boot order, choose which drive you want to load first (usually HD 0), save and exit.
That's just the basics, though.
Another possibility is that you might just have a paperweight ;)
If so, try another drive.
Hope that helps

Hi, dvd rom is not coming out when pressed eject .insted again it is accepting as inserted cd

I do not understand the second sentence of you query at all, but as for the simple fix of opening the drive: Just below the tray somewhere you will find a small hole, insert a small sturdy pin or wire (paper clips that have been partially straightened are most used) this will manually force open the tray a short distance. Once it has opened this much you can pull the tray out the rest of they way, go slower however so as to not cause further damage to the drive. You want to take 1/2-1/4 of the time to pull out the drive as it would normally open.

Tray won't open

Hi

You'll need to press the manual eject button on your DVD drive. Locate a small hole located underneath the DVD drawer. Use a safety pin or a paper clip & insert it into the hole. Push the pin gently in the hole and it will open partially. Pull the tray and check for any obstructions in the tray's path.

Disc Tray will not open

My Gateway model #AR-230 tray would not open after several years of use. Removed the black sheet metal cover from the player to access the tray mounting screws in the black plastic tray frame. By tightening or loosening the little screws on both sides of the front of the tray mechanism, I got the tray to slide out (open) reliably again. The problem is the very close tolerance of the internal tray mechanism with the front case opening causes a mechanical hangup or interference. chemicalladdie

My DVD ROM does not burn some cd,when it tries to burn the tray opens its self.how do i stop the tray from opening and closing its self automatically

Either the CD is full or the quality of the CD is inadequate to burn it with your CD writer.

Try a good quality CD, or lower the writing speed and make sure it is an empty CD.
