My Nokia 7610 Keypad Problem

My handheld's keypad suddenly stopped working without any water being spilt on it! The numbers stopped functioning, but later all came to a good mood except for number 8! It is sometimes working, some times not. And some times a number is pushed internally and the sound of hitting the number comes out What's up with the pad?

I brought that to a service center (unauthorized) and they told me the IC of the keypad is burnt and it needs to be changed with the cost of $25. Is it logical that the keys are all functioning but number 8! and he said the ICs of the keypad have stopped!

You may have a faulty connector between the keypad and the main moard of the phone. You should have it cleaned or reconnected firmly at a service center. Watch out, if they tell you that the keypad needs to be changed, be carefull and patient and ask them to show you the problem. They may want you to buy an extra keypad but this is hardly the case here.

Thanks for writing Fixya. I am Marion and let me help you with this.
There are reasons why your phones keypad is not working, first, have you tried re aligning your keypad if it fits exactly on the button, also, you may try pressing the keys without the keypad tofind out if the problem is just on the keypad or on the phones hardware already. Also, the keypads functionality may affect if it had a water spill or had dropped previuosly.
