Toshiba TECRA T9100 not reading burned CDs but reads manufactured

Hi
I have a TECRA T9100 which will read CDs or DVDs that are manufactured, but if I try and use a BOOT CD or a CD I've copied photo's onto, both of which work fine on mmy desktop, it won't see them. It's a MATSHITA drive - don't understand why it won't read burned CDs.

Toshiba laptops, like any other laptops, can read all cd regardless of the manufacturer. It is unlawful for toshiba to design a laptop that can only read toshiba recovery cds. You can reinstall your OS on a toshiba using a dell disc.

Toshiba satellite a65-s1762 dvd-ram drive problems

Take the laptop *and* your DVDs/CDs to a qualified technician.
It seems like the drive is "intermittently" failing, and needs to be replaced.

Dvd recording

I had the same problem and spent some time looking up this issue. I have a sony dvd player and it seems to have trouble reading almost any burnt dvd or cd. I have read that sonys seem to prefer the cheap dvds and cds for burning. It seems the cheap'O dvd players play burnt dvds and cds better that the nice ones, go figure.

There is more info out there about making sure to burn dvds and cds in the correct format.
You can try different burning software that has more options than just vista.
If you are creating a dvd from a movie file such as an avi or mpeg, please explain more on what you are doing and trying to accomplish.

G'luck

Dvd rom not reading dvd while reading cd properly!!!

The demands on the drive differ greatly for reading CDs & DVDs.
This is a common problem since alignment of the drive is very critical for DVDs and often fails first.

I don't offer much hope, but you might buy a special disk for cleaning optical drives; sometimes they will help.

This article has some tips that might be of use:

Burn DVD

Read on your optical drive. If it burns CD's it reads CD-RW. In order to burn DVD's it needs ro read DVD-RW. If it reads DVD-ROM it will only read DVD's not burn them.

A good external burner is Plextor. You can get one at Walmart, or you can check Ebay and find an internal to replace the one in your machine. They are fairly easy to replace, and you won't have a bulky external to carry around.
