What the printer is asking for whenyou see the lines and dashes is to examine which set of lines line up exactly on one another, this is usually numbers 5-9. then the Printer wants you to enter the number of the best clear line. Then the printer does it all over again. Select the best line now and enter that. There may be another set of lines but two run throughs should do it. That may end the print head alignment sequence. It is pretty important to do this after every time you insett a new cartridge. Then what ever you print, text or graphics will look much better.
With and HP printer as well as others, each time you change out a new cartridge, the default action of the printer if for you to run a print head alignment set. That's why this is happening and the above is how you handle it.

Press menu and then press the Right Arrow key until you get to maintenance screen then press enter. Option 2 is you align print cartridges. Automatic cartridge alignment Perform the following steps to align the ink cartridges:
1. Disconnect the power cord from the unit, wait five seconds, and then plug it back in. This will reinitialize the unit. 2. Print another alignment test page. If the Press Enter to align message is not currently on the front panel display, complete the following steps to print an alignment page: 1. Press Setup or Menu on the front panel (depending on the model). 2. Press the right arrow button (>) until Maintenance or Tools is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model). 3. Press the right arrow button (>) until Align Print Cartridges is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model). 3. To determine if the automatic alignment is functioning correctly, look into the output tray as the alignment page is printing; a blue light should be visible periodically on the page as the cartridges move back and forth. If this light is not visible, the product will not be able to align the cartridges and will require service. Service the product. 4. If the blue light is visible and the alignment pages are printing correctly, but the alignment pages still fails, there still may be a hardware problem with the unit. If there are no other printing problems and you wish to continue, use the information in the Bypassing the ink cartridge alignment section below to bypass the alignment. The information from last successful alignment will be used. If the message keeps reappearing or other print quality problems occur, service the product.
This means one of the cartridges is defective, they cant align if they cant print. What i did to fix this problem is insert 2 working cartridges and get it to align properly, even if they are low on ink, then lift the cover and the cartridges will move to the center. When this happens pull the power cable out, then insert the full non functioning cartridge. Plug the power cable back in. I tried this with a color cartridge, the color cartridge was non functioning but i was able to print in black.
Basically you align the cartridges and then swap them so the printer thinks they are still aligned.
The color still doesnt work and it is probably a defective color cartridge.
can u cet alignment print from u r printer if u get this printer .
please put this print on scanner & press scann button for scanning ........it will automaticaly align u r cartridges & printer will get ready for printing ......
