Digital audio out in XW4300

I am using HP XW4300 workstation, I want to know where to get the digital audio out. I heard that it supports 7.1 digital audio output. Which model digital receiver will be suitable for it. A digital receiver upto preamp stage is enough. Please help me with this.

I just hav 3 numbers of 3.5mm analogue audio jack. I don't know how to obtain digital audio. There is no rca jack available. But i am sure xw4300 supports digital audio. Help me to find the jack too.

  • vijayaero Nov 30, 2008

OK, but my question is where is the connecting jack for the fibre optic cable? I don't find one the rear panel or anywhere else. Also suggest me a good digital receiver tat supports 7.1 and having amplification only upto pre amp stage, i think it will bring down the cost.

Anologue connection supports only stereo. Thats why i am asking abt digital audio. I will contact hp for any expansion options.

  • vijayaero Dec 01, 2008

There is no expansion available for this, Is it possible to obtain digital audio from one of the 3.5mm jacks? Because if u refer the specsheet carefully u can find this " FlexiJack (Performing a 3-in-1 function, Digital In / Line In / Microphone)
via 3.50 mm minijack " Is it possible?

Right, it uses a fiber optic cable that connects to the "Digital Out" on your computer. There is "harmonic distortion" with the use of the RCA cables; the louder the output volume the greater the distortion. When using the "Digital Audio Cable" the is only pure data signal, aka DSP (Digital Signal Processing), because the two devices communicate with Infrared light flashes through the fiber optic cable; trust me you can hear the difference. You may need to buy one of those cables if your receiver did not come with one.

I looked at HP XW4300 Workstation Specs Sheet:

    http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quick...
    http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quick...

Then I looked at the audio connections on your Workstation (Page 10 of 30):

    HP Workstation Support Manual

It doesn't look like your workstation has a digital out connect like the other XW Series. All I found was a guide to install a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card...

    http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs...

That's what I have on my own personal computer a Sound Blaster X-Fi; my card came a 5 speaker setup. Front and Rear Speaker with a Sub-woofer; my friend purchased one with a fancy deck that his monitor sits on. Let me show you...

    My sound card:

Your system screen shots show a "Realtek HD Audio Device" and the system specs say you have a Creative Sound Blaster HD Audio Device. No wonder you're confused... I'm getting confused.

There should be more than one audio connection plug in the back of the computer and the color coding matches what is displayed on the Realtek HD audio device window. (If you don't have more than three audio connection plugs in the back we have a serious problem)

See the yellow color coded connection plug?

That's one of the "Digital Out" connections you could use to plug in to a receiver...

The other connection I was talking about looks like a small socket with a flap covering the port hole; that is for the fiber optic cable. (Sometimes you can see a red glow coming out of the port.)

    • The green color coded connection is for the front channel speakers...

    • The blue color coded connection is for analog input.

    • The pink color coded connection is for the microphone.

    • The remaining black connection is for the rear channel speakers.

Do you see the color coded jacks?

  • Dominic
    Dominic Nov 30, 2008

Yeah, it looks like you only have one audio out; the green color coded connection. So, the only possible setup is through the analog connection; unless you upgrade. There might be a expansion piece you can buy that plugs into the motherboard that gives you the addition connections; but I doubt you'll have much luck finding it. You can still have Dolby Surround Sound with the analog connection...

The answer is Yes.

Connect just the EIDE harddrive from the Compaq.
Make sure the correct jumper pins on the back of the harddrive, have a jumper cap on them to set them to Single;

OR,

The IDE harddrive model you have may Not use a jumper cap on any jumper pins, for some models of harddrives, to set the harddrive as Single.

Look up the harddrive jumper settings on the internet.
Start with the model number on the label of the harddrive.

Example; WD2500JB
Western Digital 250GB harddrive that is IDE. (EIDE)

You will need a SATA optical drive now.
BIOS Setup > Boot Options > Set the first boot device to CDROM.
Install Windows disk.

Use IDE harddrive, and IDE optical drive on the same flat ribbon IDE cable?
Can be done, but usually is a HEADACHE, and MAY not work.
BIOS looks to see what drives are connected. It looks for the drive with the Operating System on it. (Windows)

Now put a disk in the optical drive. Time has to be divided between the harddrive, and the optical drive.
IF it does work; when you are using the computer, and the optical drive you will know the real meaning of Slow.

Have a SATA optical drive?

I have a seagate barrracuda hard drive model ST3160023A which came out of a working bootable Compaq Presario 6000. I would like to use this hard drive in a newer workstation HP xw4300. I being told this...

i have not heard of anything like that. the only thing that would make a difference is the connection. yours is sata i believe. here is a link that tells everything about that drive.

http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=Ultra_ATA_160_GB&vgnextoid=cd5cb1774aafd010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD#tTabContentSupport

i do believe you would have to wipe the drive and format it and treat it like a brand new drive when you install it.

Best is to download and install the latest version of Flash to make sure.
