Dell 2407 Can't get rid of "No S-video input signal" message on screen. How do I get rid of this?

Your S-Video connection is referring to a round plug for a TV input signal. Most computers will not have this connection unless you have a TV based video card. If your using a TV 'monitor' as your computer's video device, their will either be a button on the monitor or your remote to allow you to choose the input signal. If you are using a VGA or HDMI or DVI cable as the connector between the two devices, most likely, the light is referring to one of these, as its video source. You will need to match the cable & monitor source detected to get a usable picture output.

Good luck.
Toby.

Gateway a computer desktop has power but nothing on screen the computer doesn't have a tower

1) Computer doesn't have a tower? Means it is a 'pancake style' of desktop computer. A flat model.

2) No signal on monitor screen?
Good.
At least we know the monitor is good.

Problem is monitor cable, IF separate cable; or computer.

Computer isn't sending a video signal.
No Signal, Power Saver Mode, etc.

If an older CRT type monitor, (Looks like a small TV), and monitor cable is not detachable; use a known to be working monitor, and monitor cable.

If a separate monitor cable, use a monitor cable from a working computer, for a temporary test unit.
Put it back when deemed monitor cable is the problem.

Logic at this point, would deem something is wrong with the graphics chipset.
Whether mounted directly to motherboard, (Integrated), or a separate graphics adapter card. (Graphics/Video Card)

However, computer could be dirty inside, or have a bad Power Supply.

LED's (lights) light up? Maybe fans spin?
Means nothing.

1) If ALL of the Light Emitting Diodes were on at once, they would use less than 1 Watt of power.

2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power.

3) A typical Processor can use from 51 to 130 Watts of power.
Just depends on what Processor it is.

Older desktop computer?
Ummm, 35 to 40 Watts.

That is why LED's can light, and maybe fans spin, but no computer.
NOT enough power to turn the Processor on.

Computer needs to be CLEAN on the inside. Inside of Power Supply too, as well as possible.

Proper method to do this procedure, post back in Comment if you need guidance.

Also remove ALL Ram Memory modules, and clean gold plated contact pins on bottom; with pencil eraser.
Reinstall. Make SURE they are seated in tight, and Lock 'ears' are locked in place.

Post in a Comment, as to the model number.
Example, DX4300-05. Should be on back of computer.

Gateway with 2 data ports

The "Connect monitor to alternate video port" message suggests that it is the motherboard video port. Since your computer has a video graphics card, the motherboard connections are disabled in the BIOS. (This avoids conflicts.)

Many video cards have several display ports each of a different type (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort (less likely on a low-end desktop)) . Some of these cards can drive two monitors at the same time. Look at where your current monitor is connected, then consider an adapter to connect the second monitor to that video card. (For example, a DVI to VGA adapter will let you connect a VGA monitor cable to the DVI port.) Some DVI ports will let you run two monitors from the one port with a splitter.

Gateway has support documents for their computers here: http://support.gateway.com/us/en/support/default.aspx . You'll need to use the model number and look for the User's Guide, Top Answers and support documents tabs.

The only way to use the blocked port would be to enable it in the BIOS (usually press F2 on start up for Gateways). Press this key repeatedly from power on until it responds. I frequently miss the timing, just shut down and try again. However, first you would need to remove the graphics card drivers (uninstall program (Catalyst for AMD/ATI) and the drivers) from your Windows OS. Then remove the graphics card from the desktop. Since this requires opening the computer, you will need to be careful to remain grounded relative to the computer. (Use a ground strap or work carefully touching a metal surface of the case.)

Please add a comment with your computer's model number and I'll be glad to give you specifics on running two monitors from your system.

I hope this helps.

Whats wrong when my gateway fpd2275w tft lcd monitor is pluged in but still reads no singnal

You need to make sure the VGA cable connectors at both ends are properly seated, also try this monitor with another PC to make sure that it is not the PC's video card problem since the monitor is telling you that it is not getting the video signal.
One thing about this monitor, sooner or later it will need a new set of capacitors:

Panasonic hdtv 1080i CT-36HX41E..Can you hook up a PC to the tv for the monitor?

You can connect this to your computer if you have an S-Video output on your computer. This is the only supported connection on your TV. This model doesn't have a VGA, DVI, or HDMI port.

Hope that helps!

You need to make sure you changed the sound device properly in windows. To do this right click the speaker in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and hit playback devices. Then select the correct device. If you don't know which you can select one and right click and hit "test". Keep trying them until you get sound out of your TV.
If that doesn't work then make sure you have the latest sound drivers. There are two audio drivers on the Gateway website that might work http://global-download.gateway.com/GDFiles/Driver/Audio/Audio_Realtek_5.0.1.5704_Vistax64Vistax86_A.zip?acerid=633675264897204477&Step1=DESKTOP&Step2=LX%20SERIES&Step3=LX6810&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=GATEWAY&SC=PA_6G and http://global-download.gateway.com/GDFiles/Driver/Audio/HDAudio_nVidia_1.00.0.37_Vistax64Vistax86_A.zip?acerid=633675265145088477&Step1=DESKTOP&Step2=LX%20SERIES&Step3=LX6810&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=GATEWAY&SC=PA_6G .Try them both and at least one of them should work. You may need to restart your computer after installing the drivers but after that everything should work fine.

Composite connection on Gateway Desktop

They are Video and Audio for connecting device together
  • Yellow = Video
  • White = Audio - left channel
  • Red = Audio - right channel
the connectors on a Desktop PC from the graphics card will be an OUTPUT-possibly labelled TV output, so what ever is displayed on your monitor can also be sent to a TV or recorder etc The connectors on the Xbox are also OUTPUT and designed for connection to a device which has the same connection but for INPUT
Your monitor may have composite inputs and allow you to switch to those Some TVs will have those connections as inputs and you would select one of the AV options to see the signal, often a separate button to choose AV input /HDMI / PC etc Some DVD and Video also have these as an INPUT as video cameras often have that type of connection - to record the signal

Gateway computer LX series need to recycle power before it will go into post.

The only reason I can see in a no POST issue is because of a defective hardware in your computer.

1. Try to remove all the cables at the back of your computer tower and power cycle it for 15 seconds.
2. Plug the power cord back in and the monitor cable only then start your computer.
3. Put the devices one-by-one to your computer tower until you see the faulty device.
4. If no faulty device detected after connecting all the connection at the back of your computer tower.
5. Try to open up your computer tower and reseat your Video card, memory, HD cables and CPU as well.

Let's investigate if the problem will reoccur.
