    Mine will do the same thing, but turn on occasionally. I've tried funny things like blowing on the fan and putting pressure to the left of the mouse pad, but they only work sometimes...weird.

Same thing happened to me. Turned out to be a busted inverter of the backlight. Had it replaced and was okay again.

Hold down the FN key and then press the F5 option to toggle the LCD to external monitor option.

I hope this helps. Please rate.

Screen and modem not booting up

Check if there is a small pin just under the bottom of the lid on the laptop (near the hinge), see if that is moving freely. If it isn't try to free it. This is the cut off switch that powers the laptop screen off when the lid is closed.
I'm inclined however, to suspect that because this is the notorious NVIDIA chip, overheating has caused it to desolder from the board and you will need to have the GFX chip reballed.

First our screen was going red, started in the bottom left hand corner then as the computer was on it would gradually lessen. Then one day we went to boot up computer and screen was all red then nothing...

Hi:
You may not have ot rep;ace the entire screen or the backlight on one side of the screen if you open it up there is a inverter board make sure the connection wires from the main board to the inverter are not pinched from opening and closing the lid.

Blank screen HP DV1000 I can get video on an external monitor though

Your laptop may have video options:
* only internal LCD screen
* only external monitor (leaving your screen "dark")
* both screens.

Try toggling through the above 3 options.

After that, there's no part in the LCD screen that you can repair, by yourself.

So, if the computer is still under warranty, contact HP to exercise the warranty.

Otherwise, take the printer to a qualified technician, for proper trouble-shooting & repair.

I have a hp pavilion dv1000 laptop and it randomly hibernates

Go to the control panel > Power Options, click on the hibernation tab and uncheck it. Click on apply and ok. Hibernation can damage older HP systems such as the DV1000 that is running XP, make sure it is turned off and also go through the power settings and change the setting for closing the lid on the laptop. Change the setting to "Do Nothing". This will keep your system from getting corrupt.

Screen dim HP pavilion dv1000

The lid actuator switch may not be working correctly. It's a small switch above the keyboard and led's on either the right or left side. Try pressing it 2 or 3 times to see if the display starts working correctly again. If so, it will need to be replaced.

If that doesn't work, you can also turn it on with the ac adapter plugged in. After it boots, press the power button and hold it in until it shuts off and then turn it on again and see if the display has returned to normal.

If neither of these options work, your laptop may need to have the backlight replaced.

HP Pavilion ze2000 Monitor is dim

Yes, this is what happens when the backlight goes out.
This will give you an idea of what is involved in replacing the backlight. You can find a replacement backlight here, or on ebay, just take your current backlight(s) out, measure it or them, and buy replacements of the same measurements. It doesn't have to be for the same model laptop as long as the CCFLs (cold cathode florescent lamp) are the same size.
