Question about GE 35GT720 35" TV

1 Answer

Screen off and sound buzzing

I was playing video games on my tv and all of a sudden the screen turned off and the tv was making a constant screeching sound. This sound can be compared to the sound of scratching fingernails against a chalkboard. So from then on, the tv does not turn on. When it is plugged in all I hear is this sound. Also, when I unplug the tv, the sound slowly fades away. Thank you and I appreciate any help you can give me.

Buzzing sound

You haven't specified where the buzzing sound is coming from, if it is coming from speakers, changing capacitors in the audio section will fix the problem, especially the filters. Now if it sounds like a hissing sound from back of the tv, the CRT base socket is the culprit. It is an easy thing to fix, and the base is cheap, but make sure you purchase the exact same type of base or it will harm the CRT. Good luck.

TV won't turn on.

The buzzing sound could be due to either a bad filter capacitor in the power supply or a shorted component further down the line keeping the power supply from running at the correct frequency.

Sanyo television

That set is probably not ready for the dump yet. The buzzing sound could be the power supply going into shutdown because of a shorted secondary supply, usually a shorted horizontal output. A good tech should be able to fix that at a reasonable price.

Are you using the video input? Do you get on screen display? If so you probably have the video (yellow) wire connected to one of the audio inputs.
