Julie-I understand. Our street is only 18 feet wide, so it makes sense. However, I typed in a restaraunt POI last night. It took me to the area, then told me to turn right instead of left on to a side street, and this was about 200 feet from the POI address...I'm still appy with it, but was surprised about the POI mix-up. any thoughts?

Re: Garmin 255W solution
I have a Garmin as well and as we speak, I am at our vacation house which is essentially in the middle of no where (but its gulf front so the lack of even a BP is worth it!). I had a similar problem on the way here and there are a few reasons I know that will cause it:
1. If there was recent construction on that road (you have an older, not ancient, just older gps unit) then the maps are slightly out of date. try going to garmin.com and getting the most recent update.
2. I know for a fact that in heavy urban areas (or the rural sort), there are tons of problems with this sort of thing. Its just a matter of basing their maps on faulty databases.
The only real suggestion I have is that you update the software from garmin.com

I had the same problem with my nuvi 255w. Called tech support at Garmin and they told me one of the voices under Tools, Settings, Language, Voice has to end in a persons name. I had British English selected and it did not speak street names. When I selected Austrailian Englich - Karen, the street names all work fine.
I am in the same boat as you.. I am on my 2nd 255w unit as well. The first one lasted 2 weeks. This one about 45 days. The thing I noticed, which may be coincidence, is I updated the software and map a couple days prior on each unit before problem occured. Last night the 2nd one lost satelite for about 5 hrs, an area I deliver pizza's in everday with no other problems. No mountains, no tall buidlings, yet I decided then to power off unit completely, stand outside and turn unit on. I waited about 10 minutes then put 255w back in vehicle in which at that time still was not working. But 30 minutes later when I got back into vehicle it was working again for the rest of the night. Not sure if standing outside corrected or not, but it is working again. I would be curious to know if the software update and map update plays a part in the problem.
Are you charging through the computer or wall charge,I charge my Garmin 255w with a wall charger for about 3 hours and I have all the bars. There are different strengths of chargers but even so,overnight is excessive, try a different charger.
Maybe it is looking for the GPS? You have to use a USB cable and plug the GPS in. The computer sees it as another drive, that is where you can add photos, POI, etc. Without the GPS plugged in, Garmin can not connect to download maps.
Hope that helps
