Is there a fault code being reported on the screen. A number like 37,002,888.83474 or 09,044,055,08089987 ? That would be very helpful in determing your problem.

What is the difference between cold and hot laminators?

Hot laminators are the most common types of laminators. They use heat (220 to 300 degrees F) to apply the lamination. Hot laminators provide a better quality lamination that is more resistant to wear and tear. This is the preferred method of lamination for materials that are not effected by heat.

Cold laminators use pressure sensitive adhesives to bind the lamination film when the material being laminated is sensitive to heat. Certain inks in standard ink jet printers are known to have the ink melt in the machine. There are other types of printers that use heat sensitive paper. For these types of applications the cold laminator is the best choice.

Ink has run out ??? it no longer prints... TSP100 How do we change the ink roller/cartridge or whatever it requires?

TSP100 Thermal Printer work with a thermosensible paper, there is no ink to change, if the print quality is poor you have to
  • check the paper roller, it can be wrong installed.
  • Check the upper cover if not closed properly close it.
  • check the print head or the pressor roller.

I want to know what is inside the printer cartridge

The ink cartridge are of different type and contains ink in different form.

  • Thermal Ink jet Cartridge (HP, Canon) - The cartridge contains a liquid ink, which is heated by a heating plate on the cartridge. A bubble is formed which forces the ink which comes out of the nozzle.
  • Piezoelectric Cartridge (Epson) - The cartridge contains piezoelectric crystal, which when current is applied changes shape and size forcing ink out from the nozzle.
  • Toner (Laser Jet Printer) - A drum contains powdered ink (toner), which is spreads on the paper using negative and positive charges and the heater sticks the ink on the paper.

Open heat error

A laser printer uses a "fuser" -- it produces heat, and melts the DRY ink into the paper, to "bond" the paper and the ink.

If you have a "heat error", then the fuser is not working correctly.

Call the local XEROX office, and schedule a service-call for their technician to replace/repair the fuser.

Difference between electrostatic and inkjet printer

This sounds like a "homework" assignment.

An electrostatic printer puts electrical charges onto a drum.
Then, dry "powder" ink is put onto the drum.
The ink sticks only to the charged points.
A piece of paper is rolled against the drum.
The "fuser" heats the paper, and melts the ink into the paper, permanently "fixing" onto the paper.

An ink-jet printer shoots microscopic drops of wet, heated, ink onto the paper.
The ink dries into the paper.

Thermal head

The "thermal head" heats-up the ink and the paper, in order to "melt" the ink into the paper, and thus "fix" it. When it fails to produce heat, all the printed pages will have ink that can be smudged, when you touch the printed page.

It might be less expensive to REPLACE the printer than it would be to REPAIR the printer.

All you need to do is CHANGE THE BATTERIES! This is a thermal printer that does not use ink, BUT...when the batteries are old/weak they will not generate enough voltage to heat the thermal cartridge paper properly, resulting in faint, poorly printed letters.

No longer printing - looks like its out of ink - what to do?

A thermal printer doesn't use ink at all. It uses a special heating element to heat the printing surface, which makes a special chemical in it turn black where it gets heated. If the unit doesn't have fresh batteries, the unit may not be able to produce the heat it needs to print. If it has fresh batteries and the correct cartridge, the unit needs to be replaced.

Copy comes out dirty and ink comes off when touched.

If your copier uses toner and not ink then it sounds like you have a fuser issue. Your fuser heats up and through heat and pressure it causes the toner which is a powder to "fuse" to the paper. If teh toner is smearing off then the fuser will need to be looked at. There is eaither a heating element or a heating lamp that has burned out and will need to be replaced by a tech.
