Re: My PS2 won't spin a disc
Try both audio and game disks if it will not turn the disks then the motor hub on the ps2 is shot if it will play the audio cd and not play the game then the laser is out of alignment but if you hear it spinning it could also be a burnt out laser as well further information would be required to diagnose this issue further.

Not necessarily, just make sure that the laser is not locking up and its actually moving if not then that right there might be the problem. If it is moving then you might need a new laser. If its that the laser is not moving do not touch it instead try moving the ps2 and making sure that you don't hear any clanking noise inside.
make sure the game disc isnt dirty. also check the eye (game disc reader) to see if its dirty. if u cant see it (you probably wont b able to) then take it to a place like target or gamestop(GS). i reccomend GS.
You need to try clenaing the Laser Lens. This is done by Using Q-tip and a window cleaner like Windex. Lightly Dampen one end of the Q-Tip and swab the lens with a slight bit of aggression. Use the Dry end of the swab to dry the lens. Try it out. Also you could have your laser gear popped out. look at the long worm gear to be sure it is stuck in the black holder. This should help you. In the unfortunate event it does not, you probably need a new laser. I do think you will get it working becasue you hear the Disc spinning. If the Laser was really dead, the disc would not spin as in it cannot tell the computer the laser sees a disc. Does the same thing as though no disc is in the drive bay. the reason it makes the "grinding" noise is because the motor that moves the lens to read the disk is dieing, this generally happens when you have played your ps2 for a long time, this only happens to older consoles.
