Question about Kitchen Ranges
I have an "advanced cooking system" Maytag gas stove "super capicity plus" . I have been having a recurrent problem since it was new. The oven makes a fluttering sound during the pre-heat, and regular cooking cycle. At times it takes longer than usual to heat up, and occasionaly it makes a poofing sound as if to much gas has accumulated before ignition, as well as a slight gas odour while the oven is operating. In my search of the internet i have heard many explanations, from the oven igniter, thermostat, to faulty gas valves.
Could you please help?
This is most often due to the ignitor bar aging. With time it draws less current and does not hold the regulator valve open all the way. You can confirm that the regulator is OK if the broiler works. Replacement for nearly all of these ovens is a universal part, about $35 at appliance parts stores, takes 5-15 minutes to change (depending on whether you need to pull the oven out to get to the connector).
