    I used Windows XP recovery CD. Buy the way, I have Dual boot from HDD , Linux (default) and WinXP (optional). But since i cant see anything I am blind to take any action.

    Do you think USB-to-IDE Adapter (3.5") should work even though i cant access the screen?

    blank screen power on

    exactly same problem - no light on laptop screen - tried torch, don't have new enough external monitor to try it with, Siemens have offered to collect and repair - so this could be to do with a back light (sorry not that IT literate!!)

It may be the lcd or windows, press F8 on start up and see if you get a safe mode screen, if so highlight start windows with last known good configuration and allow a re-boot. If it is the lcd you can shine a torch at the screen to see if you can see the startup screen, if so the back light may be damaged and in need of a professional repairer

    the external monitor needs to be set up on your desktop, it wont just come on by connecting it.

    Sounds like a backlight fault, try the torch to see if the desktop is there.

    Last thing before that, have you tried booting with a windows cd or is the restore/installation on a hard drive partition?

    It sounds like a processor or memory fault.

    The hard drive data can be retreived by means of usb to 3.5" adapter cable which can be read as a seperate drive; which you can purchase

    Sorry i was assuming it was a no go boot and not a screen problem.

    the usb to ide wouldnt work as it's not IDE it is 3.5" which is different to normal hardrives, but you should get an adapter with the kit.

External monitor has no input signal

You can't just attach an external monitor to most running laptops. Nothing will happen. You must attach the monitor when the laptop is off, then start the laptop and it will recognize the external monitor and send the video to it.

By whom Kathleen? You?

I ask because there are two ways to answer this;

1) You performed the procedure, and less for me to post.

2) You did not perform the procedure, and I need to explain from the beginning; using a diagnostic flowchart, pictorial guidance, and guidance from me.

While I wait for your reply, suggest perform this simple test first;
Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, attach an external monitor;

1) VGA monitor to RGB (VGA) port on left side of laptop.
Can use a CRT type of monitor (Looks like a small TV), or flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_Connector

OR;

2) S-Video port on left side of laptop for TV, or external video display device

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video

Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By factory default settings, the display should show on the external monitor. (Display device)

If not there are 3 display options available;
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external monitor
3) External monitor ONLY

Press, and hold the Fn key down, and at the SAME time tap once on the F5 key.
The F5 key is the Display Toggle-Over key.

Still no?
Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F5 key.

Display on external monitor means there is a problem with;

A) Video Cable
B) screen Inverter
C) LCD screen

Which means if computer display was working correctly before;

1) Whoever repaired it could have used the external display option, and it needs to be set back to internal

2) The Video Cable connections are not tight, not correct.

Loose at motherboard, screen Inverter, or LCD screen.

3) Anti-Static Procedures were NOT followed, and laptop is now an expensive paperweight.

Post back in a Comment.

My acer laptop show white sceern only?

What can you do if the laptop LCD screen turned completely white? 1. Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen.
2. Defective LCD screen.
3. Defective motherboard (I assume the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard). Here's an example of a laptop with white screen. When you turn on the laptop, it starts but the image on the screen is completely white right from the beginning.

Most likely you still can use the laptop with an external monitor. Just connect the monitor to the VGA port on the back or side of your laptop and then switch the video output from internal to external mode.

On Toshiba laptops you can toggle between internal and external screens using Fn+F5 keys. Hold down Fn and press on F5 until you get video on the external monitor.
On IBM laptops use Fn+F7.
On HP laptops use Fn+F4.

It's possible that you have to use a different key combination on your laptop but you get the idea.

On some laptops, in order to be able to use the external monitor, you have to connect it to the laptop and then restart the laptop so the external monitor is detected by the laptop. In some cases the laptop screen may turn white because of poor connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. If you want to check this connection, you'll have to take apart the display panel because the connector is located on the back side of the LCD screen.

These laptop service manuals and disassembly instructions may be useful. Always check the video cable connection first. Reconnecting the video cable may fix your problem.

If reconnecting the video cable doesn't help, most likely you have a problem either with the LCD screen or with the motherboard. The best way to find out witch one is causing the problem is testing the laptop with another working LCD screen. you will need to connect to another monitor or your television to your computer with the vga lead monitor connection click start control panel display change display settings adjust resolution this may vary depending on your operating system you should see a no 1 and a no 2 with detect and identify keep an eye on the screen when you select the number tabs this may vary depending on your operating system when you select the no 2 tab this should be the extended desktop always click apply after making any changes or click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to monitors right click select scan for hardware changes if you can get an extended desktop your monitor is faulty if you cant get an exended desktop Hope it helps

Good day, May I inquire how to fix Acer Aspire 4520G there is no display on the monitor, but i heard the fun running. What are the possible cause of this, is it video card, CPU or motherboard. I'd tried...

to help isolate it, try to connect an external monitor to it. If display works on the external display, problem would be the laptop LCD. If you can remove and reconnect the LCD cable to the motherboard, that may help. If no display on both display, try to test the hard drive to another laptop if you can, or you can try reinstalling Windows. If no display at all, chances are, it is the video card.

2 possible problem, bad LCD or bad CFL. attach an external monitor and start your laptop. if you see a display, you need to bring your laptop to a professional repair center because fixing CFL needs special tool. if you are capable of removing parts of your laptop, you can find LCD assembly on ebay.
