Take the 4 screws out of the stand and remove it. Remove the 2 screw in monitor cable plug bolts.
Put a steel ruler or butter knife between the seam on the side of the monitor and prize open. This is tough but be sure not to insert your prying tool too far and dont start on a corner. Once a few clips have popped it will come apart easier.

Monitor wont light up. the power light only flashes on and off continuosly, even when trying to shut it off. It's a dell e173fpb monitor.

Check for shorted out transistors in the inverter circuits, also check the fuse, caps, solder joints.
You may want to buy the board if you do not want to troubleshoot it down to components level.

Hello,i have a dell tft screen. After having made all the connections with ups and cpu,the monitor is not geting on..could you please suggest the remedy?

Power light blinking? Try Plugging directly into the wall outlet istead of the UPS?
Otherwise you may have problem in the power/inverter board and need to do component level troubleshooting.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

I have a Dell flatscreen monitor model #E173FPb that turns itself on and off during use. How do I fix the switch, or is it something worse?

It can be failing power supply due to bad caps, or bad solder joints, or failing inverter circuits.

Wont display anything, green light on power button keeps flashing

Hello,

The flashing light on the Dell E173 series indicates a failure in the power supply board. This series has several versions on the board so you will need to know the exact model, it is listed on the label at the bottom of the back cover. The versions are E173FPc, E173FPb and E173FPf. We have repair instructions posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/monitor-repair/dell-monitor-repair/ that cover each version on the unit. The repairs will require replacing a few pars that will need to be soldered.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Power light blinking. no other response

The blinking LED mean that the display will not be shown to you and this problem belongs to short circuiting of transistor that are being connected with the mini transformers. The transformers boosts up the voltages for the LCD screen.
IF you are a technical person then handle the situation as i am going to describe. Otherwise, get it done by an expert in this field.

1. Open the back stand that holds the monitor by opening the 4 nos. of philip screws behind it as shown

2.After the stand is removed you will need to pry the back of the case off as illustrated in the pictures below. Use a small flat bladed screwdriver start at one of the release openings on the bottom as shown. Once you have a little gap in the case just pull the 2 halves apart and work your way around the screen.

3.
After the screen unit is removed from the plastic case we can get down to the repair. We need to remove the power supply unit. You will need to unplug the 4 back-light connections (connectors with pink and white leads, circled in red) and the control panel cable the flat signal cable. Then remove the 2 screws from each end, then undo the 2 small nuts holding the vga connector to the case (circled in yellow).

4.
Before you fully remove the shield and board assembly be sure to unplug the LCD signal cable that is under the boards as seen in the picture to the right. Now turn the assembly over and remove the 5 screws and the 2 plastic standoff clips as marked by the yellow circles below. Now with the board removed you will need to replaced the components that are circled. The parts are as follows:
3 Amp Fuse (yellow)
Q759, Q760, Q734 & Q740 - C5707 transistors (red)
Q743 & Q751 - MOSFET Transistors (blue)
The location number are for a E173FPb but the E172FPb boards have the components in the same locations.

I hope it is an understandable thing to do. Get it done yourself or an expert and get back your view...

good luck

E173FP monitor - blank with blinking power LED

Remove the stand by removing the screws at the center back.
pry the front and back plastic apart with a large flat blade screwdriver. The front and back snap together so you need to "pop" them apart.
