SOURCE: pxe -e61: media test failure,

Hi,

Welcome to fixya.
-The first thing to check is your boot order in the BIOS.
-Unplug from power, remove battery wait a solid 5 minutes and try again.
-Go into the BIOS and choose the Default settings (press F9 to set defaults then F10 to save and exit).
-It sounds like it can't find a hard drive to boot from so it's looking for the Network to boot from.
-If you have an external CD/DVD drive try to boot your OS from that (after changing the boot order). If it did not work then there is a big chance that the problem is a failed hard drive.

System disc

What type of system disc ?
operating system disc
Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html
"This will show you how to create a Windows 7 system repair disc to use to boot to the system recovery options if you don't have a Windows installation disc, can't find your Windows installation disc, or can't access the recovery options provided by your computer manufacturer."
If you do not have access to either disc: Windows 7 - Repair Disc download

http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windows-7-system-repair-discs/

a) Insert the Windows 7 System Repair DVD or Installation DVD and reboot.

b) Select the correct keyboard input method and click 'Next'.

Note: If you are using the Windows7 Install DVD then at the 'Install Now' prompt (Do not pick the Install Now option) instead choose the 'Repair your computer' option located in the lower left of the dispay.

c) The System Repair tool will search for a valid operating system and will report that "Windows found problems with your computer's startup options.

Do you want to apply repairs and restart your computer?"

d) Click 'Repair and restart' and reboot again to the Windows 7 System Repair environment.

e) Click 'Next' at the keyboard selection prompt and when the 'System Recovery Options' screen appears verify that the "Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows" is selected.
Note that on your Dual Boot system there now should be only one operating system listed. Click the 'Next' button.

f) Now from the menu list select the 'Command Prompt' option.
g) At the DOS prompt type the following three commands:
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot (may return an 'Eliment not found' message)
bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd

h) Close the command prompt window and click the 'Startup Repair' option.

i) The repair process may take some time, so wait until the process completes at which point you will see two messages "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" and "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically".

These messages are the result of the radical changes made by removing the other drive. Ignore the Send/Don't send options.

J) Close this message window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the Send/Don't send window.

Next click on the 'View advanced options for system recovery and support' option and from the main menu once again click 'Startup Repair'.

This time the repair process may only that a few seconds and when prompted "Startup Repair could not detect a problem", click 'Finish' and run the 'Startup Repair' option one more time, click 'Finish', and then remove the System Repair DVD and click 'Restart'.
Reboot the computer.

Hope this helps.

My samsung Q45 notebook tells me to insert the windows installation disc and restart my computer. I have not got this, can anyone help?

First disconnect any external devices connected to the computer except the mouse and keyboard.

This error usually happens if the hard drive is not getting detected by the operating system or due to bad hard drive.

First check if all the physical connections to the computer are set correctly.
If it is a laptop remove the laptop battery, wait for 5 minutes and then connect back the battery, check if it works.

If the above step does not work then you will need to run CHKDSK tool to check if there are any bad sectors on the hard drive would suggest running chkdsk which would scan for any bad sectors on the hard drive and if those errors are repairable if would repair and if it cannot at the end of the chkdsk scan you would see a message "found one or more unrecoverable error on the hard drive" which means the hard drive is damaged.

If you have a Windows Vista installation disc, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc. If you do not restart your computer from the disc, the option to repair your computer will not appear.

1. Insert the installation disc.
2. Restart your computer.
Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button , and then click Restart.
3. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
Note: If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.
4. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
5. Click Repair your computer.
6. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
7. On the System Recovery Options menu, click command prompt and in the command prompt typechkdsk /f and wait till the scan is completed and later restart the computer and check what happens.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Make-system-repairs-from-the-Windows-Recovery-Environment-from-Windows-Vista-Inside-Out

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

Hope this helps!

When you first turn on the computer it should display a HP logo for a few moments, on this screen near the bottom will be a message telling you to press either F10 or F11. Press the indicated key and the recovery process will begin without an installation disk needed. The files are there on the hard drive and will be used from there.

How do i reset my accer aspire 5336 laptop to factorydettings

This information can be found on the support page of Acer.com

How do I reinstall the Operating System on my computer?
Select models, with Microsoft Windows, have the ability to have the Operating System reinstalled from a hidden partition built into the computer.
Note: During the process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend making a backup of all personal data before starting the recovery process.

To start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media, you may purchase the set online from the Acer Recovery Media Order Form.
Note: If your computer does not have an internal optical disc drive, an external optical disc drive will be required in order to recover the Operating System using Acer Recovery Media.
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly to enter the computer's Boot Menu.
  3. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
  4. Close the CD-ROM tray.
  5. Refer to on screen instructions to select either CDROM or USB CDROM.
  6. The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
  7. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first of the Recovery CDs.
  8. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
Note: if your computer is unable to run the Acer Recovery process, or errors occur during recovery, please contact Acer support.

I know that you are unable to start the current vista operation system and getting the error 0xc00000e9; the issue can be caused by the damaged system files or hardware device. You might first follow the steps below to exclude the possibility of system corruption.

Method 1: Use the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to run System Restore

======================================================

1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.

2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ...". appears.

3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next.

4. Click Repair your computer.

5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next

6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on System Restore.

7. Follow the System Restore Wizard instruction as usual and choose the appropriate restore point.

8. Click Finish to restore the system.

Method 2: Startup Repair from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

======================================================

5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next.

6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on Repair your computer.

7. (Click the operating system that you want to repair), and then click Next.

Unable to connect to internet on broadband, keep getting error message 651, Win 7. No problem prior to loading Win 7, used to have Vista Ultimate.

This a well known bug in Windows 7 specially when you migrate from Windows Vista to Windows 7.
The cause is a file "raspppoe.sys". This file will be found on the partition you have installed your operating system If it is C: partition then it is found on C:\Windows\System32\drivers.
To fix this bug simply rename it as shown as follows

(1)Rename this file from "raspppoe.sys" to raspppoe.old or any name it any name of your choice.
(2)Once this done simply restart
