In most cases, iPods do not require drivers. Simply open iTunes (a free download can be found at and then connect. It should recognize it immediately.
If you have tried this and it still does not work, please post what OS (operating system, i.e., Vista, XP, OSX, etc) you are using and perhaps we can provide more assistance.
Good luck! TJ

    What about the iTunes did not work? Did it not install or rather, do you have iTunes open and it still refuses to recognize your ipod?

    In order to find out your OS, please do the following:

    1.) With your left mouse button, click the "Start" button on the bottom left hand corner of your screen.

    2.) With the right mouse button, click on "My Computer" when the menu pops up.

    3.) Using the left mouse button again, click on "Properties"

    4.) A window will pop up with a few tabs. One of these tabs will say "General". Simply respond with the info that is displayed in this tab under the word "System" (it should be something along the lines of Microsoft Windows XP/Home Edition/Version 2002/Service Pack 2)

To get your 4GB iPod Nano to be recognized by your computer

I found the solution to this problem:

To get your iPod Nano 3rd Generation (4GB video) to be recognized by your computer, you will need to manually get it into "Disk Mode" here's how:
  1. Verify that it has a full charge, if not, you need to either charge the iPod before continuing or connect it to a high-powered USB port, or simply connect it to the Power Adapter that plugs into an electrical outlet. (just not connected to your computer)
  2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off once. (Set it to Hold, and then turn it off again. Just slide back and forth.)
  3. Press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons at the same time for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select (center) buttons and immediately press and hold the Select (center) and the Play/Pause buttons until the ‘Disk Mode’ screen appears.
  5. Disconnect your iPod from the power adapter and connect it to your computer;
  6. Now the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect" and should be recognized by your computer.
I hope this helps you; I had a hard time finding a solution and thought I'd share the wealth once my stress was relieved.
