You set your computer resulation to do things to the monitor that it can't do. try to boot up in " Safe mode " goto >control panel>DISPLAY>SETTINGS and change resulsation. You may also "flutzz" with a software program that changes the frequence of the monitor.Find that program and lower the frequence.

Hp laptop screen black at startup

Hi
I assume the fan is whirring and you have some lights/LED's glowing. If you look around the sides and back of the laptop you will see a blue VGA socket. Plug a spare monitor into this blue socket, philswift.jpg You may need to use a friends monitor to test it out. If it still does not show an image on the monitor, make the laptop change where it is sending the picture. To do this press 'fn' (function) and hold down. Then press one of the 'F' keys that has a picture of monitors on it. In the photo it is 'F4' philswift_0.jpg
Keep pressing 'F4' whilst still holding down 'fn' as this may scroll through many monitor options. Leave 5 seconds between each press to let the action happen. If you still do not get an image then the laptop monitor graphics card has failed. If you do get an image on the spare monitor but not on the laptop screen then you have a failed backlight or inverter. Angle the laptop and catch the light and see if there is a very feint image on the monitor. It looks very dark but you should be able to pick out what you would normally see. If you can see this very dark image it is the backlight. If you cannot it is the inverter or the LCD screen itself. From here on we are into professional level fault finding, you can see here http://www.daileyint.com/hmdpc/lcd.htm . If the laptop was old and slow it may not be worth repairing. If you do wish to go ahead and reapir send it off to a fixed price repair shop like http://www.sefton-computer-repairs.co.uk/screens.htm or myself at www.tecorum.com It takes a few days to repair and send back.
All the best, Phil

change your screen resolutions two~three different settings and a different computer - lf the line appears in same position, it's most likely bad monitor.

Attempting to install tft lcd monitor on new processer, have intall disc, but monitor will not come on ????

Hello.

Be certain that the install disc software works with your operating system. What specific monitor and your operating system (Windows 7, etc.).

Also, be certain that the monitor cable is connected to a USB port. Try another port.

When you said "not come on" do you mean no power or a dark screen ?

Try your monitor on another PC to see if monitor problem.

Hope this helps.

The screen is broken and i need to connect it to a pc monitor in order to get data off but the monitor is saying no signal.... it showed the windows startup but then turns off

most likely, that's because the video resolution or frequency is not set correctly for the "new" monitor.
i am assuming that you are NOT ref'ing to a laptop computer being the one you need data from...
your best bet will be to begin tapping the "F8" key prior to seeing the windows load screen. you should see the "ACER" screen first then it will normally transition to the windows loading screen. when you see the ACER screen, start tapping the "F8" key approximately once per second (if you tap too rapidly, you will get a keyboard error... in which case, just reboot the computer.). once the "F8" stroke is successful, you should get a list of options. one of the options should say "Safe Mode" and "Safe Mode with Networking". using your arrow keys, select one of them and press enter. hopefully, being in safe mode will allow your "new" monitor to display the default frequency and resolution.

Gateway flat LCD dead

I'm not sure if your referring to the lcd monitor (gateway brand) or a laptop's lcd screen not working anymore.

1. if it's an lcd monitor...
a. test monitor in a different pc before assuming the problem is the lcd screen
b. replace the monitor if after testing monitor is in deed the item failing.

2. if it's the lcd screen from your gateway laptop.
a. you may be able to attach a regular analog monitor to the paralel port on your gateway.. test and see if the monitor that you attach will give you a picture (you may have to toggle with some some keys on your laptop keyboard to make have the signal going to the "externa" or attached monitor.
if the other monitor does not work either.. you video controller on your motherboard on your laptop may be failing and you may not have other options that to replace your laptop.
b. if the external/attached monitor works.. very likely the problem is the lcd screen for that you need to get a replacement and you may have to contact gateway to find out about pricing (or places to send your laptop for service if you're still within warranty). if you have an old laptop you may have to considere simply replacing the unit as buying a new lcd screen may very likely be more expensive than the same working laptop.
