Question about Gateway PC Desktops

1 Answer

Here's more info to my problem: Gateway laptop is 4 years old. Now getting message that says "System Fan Error!! !!Please turn off system and checkyour system fan!!" Computer was purchased at Best Buy, so brought it up there for geek squad to look at. Geek Squad said it was motherboard problem and that we needed to buy a new computer. Is it really impossible to repair this laptop or were they just trying to get us to purchase a new one? Can any computer repair shop do this repair? If computer does need to be replaced, can a repair shop get the music and documents that are saved?

Your CPU fan has failed! your heatsink overheats quickly and then shuts down to protect itself from burning up. Your motherboard is Not the problem, the fan is. This fan can be replaced by any compotent laptop technician. Make sure the tech has access to Gateway or has a source that supplys Gateway parts, as the part must be made for Gateway laptops and your model exactly! 90% of this type of problem can be repaired! Don't let non-techs at Best Buy or any other dept. store tell you your PC is "No Good". Take the time like your doing and do some research the problem before giving your hard earned cash to a 16 year old "Technician/salesman/commision/bonus" person.
If the Harddrive is undamaged and it can be mounted yes, your stuff can be saved to DVD or such. Be prepared though, this type of service can be costly so ask around and get quotes.

This couldn't be due to a malfunctioning fan, or any other hardware problem, it certainly sounds like a virus but it's hard to know. I advise using this guide t try and remove any viruses or malware.

The sytem checks for the Chasis fan during the bootup (startup) process. The fan is connected to the motherboard via cable. Turn off the system. Open it and make sure the the cable is connected properly. While the PC is open, press the power button and check if the fan turns on. If not the chasis fan may have gone faulty, which needs replacement. If you find it faulty, you may find and replace the fan by removing the old/ faulty fan by removing the 4 screws and installing the new one.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Disconnect everything from the motherboard except the power supply connections and cpu fan. Install one stick of RAM and connect your monitor. Then try starting up. See if you get any BIOS boot messages. This will tell you that the board and processor are okay.

With what you say you've tried already, I'm thinking you might have a bad processor. Most every other problem would result in some kind of error like POST beep codes or messages on screen. If the system still doesn't boot with the bare minimum parts installed, replace the processor.

Hello there,
First things firsk friend.
1)Did you ever change your RAMs? if so, take it out and just put one to work.
2) If you do a backup OS system before using your laptop? if not you have to reinstall all, from recovery partition at this point.
3) Use default BIOS settings.

Operating system not found problem

Easiest way to check is to change the cable and run your computer again! If you have same problem occures it does not mean that your hard drive is wrong.Just intert the boot CD and try to repair it if that fails or crashes or simply restart your computer then you have problem with hard drive!

Hi There,

The message that you are getting from your computer system is because the motherboard has got very hot and therefore requires new motherboard and the new fan will come with it. I would buy a new computer instead of repairing this one due to the cost involved.

The answer to your data is yes... your hard drive can taken out and the data copied to another system, or even burned to cd. I would buy an external drive kit from pc shop and instert your drive into it and use it as an external deive on your new laptop.

Please let me know if you need more help.

Regards,

Philip

It is a virus or spyware try running a antivirus or antispyware prog if that doesn't help you will have a choice live with it(easy, but annoying), take it in (easy, but expensive), or save all your important files and reload everything (little more difficult, but cheap). Hope that helps you out. Either way you do it make sure to always have antivirus and antispyware running, you can get good ones for free. here are some links.
