Boot into Safe Mode and see if it will allow you to run a System Restore.
To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.
If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.
In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.
In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command. If the check disk utility can't fix the problem you'll need to reinstall windows.
Many laptop vendors put a special restore partition on the disk. At boot up, you should see a brief black and white message that says hit F? for boot sequence. At that next screen will be an option to restore you computer. Be aware, you are going to loose anything you have done since you bought the computer, think data, settings, pictures, etc. Hope this information will help. Your response is very much appreciated. Thank you for using Fixya...
It appears that the computer is infected with virus and may need full system recovery. You can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key
& keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the datas on
You can also create a set to Recovery disk from the recovery partition, to do so
Start Menu> All Programs> Acer erecovery management> Click Create Factory Default Disk, if you receive any error code or unable to burn the disk, please contact Acer Technical
support at 1 800 816 2237 and order for an Recovery Disk.
what i would do is go in safe mode and u do that by when u first start computer puss f8 key back up the data and sad to say reinstall will be needed if u cant get the data out that way u will have to 1 take that hard drive out and conect it to anther computer or take it to a computer shop and have then take the data off. our hard drive maybe going out but could just be bad sectors and with a full restore that will fix it
Try start up in Safe Mode press F8. Choose Safe Mode, when at the choice window, to select either Safe Mode Desktop, OR System Restore, chooses system restore and choose a time before you had the "Problem" and follow instructions. This should get you back.
If that doesn't work get back to me...
What was your coworker doing on it? I would say you need to at least do a disk check. You can do this through windows repair console or in Vista you can boot to the disk and have it check boot up problems. Very easy.
This message means that the hard disk was not detected, this is due to either the BIOS setting was changed or the hard disk has failed.
Try booting up with a DOS disk and run FDISK, and see if it detects the hard drive, if possible run a diag test program.
1. Please press and hold on F8 key immediately after power on then select Safe Mode. If you are able to go to the desktop, please go to Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore. Please select a date when your laptop was working properly. This will the software changes beyond that date but will not delete your personal data. Your laptop will restart and give the message that the restoration was completed. Please connect the ac adapter so that the process will not be interrupted. If this does not work like if you are not able to 2.Do the system recovery but with this option, you will lose everything and your computer will be restored to the out of the box state. For you to do this, you will need to use the recovery disk that came with your laptop. Please load the disk 1 then turn your laptop off. Please press on the power button to turn it back on then immediately press and hold on the F12 key. Select CD/DVD from the boot options. Windows will be loading files then select Recovery Wizard. Select the Default Software after that then select the Recover to the Out of the Box State. After the first disk, you will be prompted to load the second disk. Please connect the ac adapter since the entire process will take around an hour. Hope this works. Thank you.
