Maytag Atlantis stopped mid cycle

Bad/worn/broken lid switch look at the back of the lid there is a little lid cam there that hits a switch,if this switch isn't engaging it will do just what you are describing.use a small screw driver to push the button in and see if it starts.

Maytag washer mav7000: clothes wont spin dry

http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php From what I see, your machine has a drive belt. Check it for damage or see if it has anything on it making it slip. Check the pulleys to make sure they are not worn out.

Washer filled with water to began wash; once closed....nothing- wash cycle did not contuine - standing water remains. will not spin or perform any other actions. has stop working entirely

That sounds like a faulty door switch. This can be tested by a technician bridging the door switch contacts. Check also that the door lock is not stuck inside using a pencil or a small screwdriver, be careful not to damage door lock.
If the door lock was not the problem, then check the water level floater , and also ensure that hot water is filling properly, otherwise the thermostat wont detect right temperature and cycle will stop.
More likely you have a problem with the door lock switch.
