RCA M4204 Screen Completely Black

The screen on my RCA Opal M4204 went completely black. It will still play the music that was installed on it, but the screen will not come back. Do you think I should just get a new one, or try to get it fixed?

To update the firmware of the M42xx mp3 player click here and download the firmware. start the firmware and when it is runnin plug the M42xx in at the same time holding down the PLAY BUTTON (center) until a white screen with a small computer with a line going to your M42xx is displayed and then release the PLAY button. You can then click on start and the firmware update will complete,,, DO NOT DISCONNECT DURING THIS UPDATE... it may take 2 times to complete this but it will work.... YEA!!!! I have an rca opal#M4208GR-B that seems to have lost the ability to show which songs are on the menu. In fact, the entire choice for music, radio etc. has disappeared leaving only the icons such as hammer...

i have the same damn problem. On the menu screen, i don't see any words, letters and ect. I only see the icons. When I try playing the music on my opal m4208-GR, It only shows a black screen. So i don't know what too do. I tried reformatting and the firmware update. Im guessing you have too kill the battery for the whole day. Try playing the mp3 all day until the battery drains out. Hopefully it can regain memory after that.

My rca opal m4204-a says initializing and thats it won't do anything else went to web site to check and can not fix it with thier instructions internal battery needs reset or something

As long as the computer enumerates the drive (you can see it in My Computer as a drive letter) then there is likely an issue with the firmware.

Download the firmware install from the RCA website: http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2558
Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the install.
Be sure to back up any important media before performing this install.

If your computer does not recognize it, press and hold the play button while connecting the device for upwards of 30 seconds.

My Opal RCA MP4 player will not play. it keeps

Assuming the lock key on the back of the player is in the unlocked position, it sounds like there is a corrupt firmware file. This should just need a firmware reinstall.

Download the firmware install from the RCA website: http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2558
Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the install.
Be sure to back up any important media before performing this install.

How to i play videos on a RCA M4204

Log onto the RCA website and download the RCA SMV Video Converter. The Opal only plays videos that are in one specific format. This converter will put your videos into that exact format (see Resources below).
Install the RCA SMV Video Converter once you have downloaded the software.
Open the RCA SMV Video Converter software to begin putting videos onto your RCA Opal.
Connect the RCA Opal to your computer using the USB chord that came with the device.
Wait until the RCA SMV Video Converter software reads that the device has been connected. You will know this when the bottom of the software screen reads “Player Detected: Opal 1GB 2GB.”
Select the “Browse” option to find any videos that are on your computer which you wish to add to the RCA Opal.
Click the box next to “Transfer output files to OPAL 1GB 2GB after conversion is complete” after you have selected all of the videos which you wish to convert. This will automatically add the videos to your RCA Opal after they have been converted.
Click the “Convert” box after you have selected all of the videos. The videos will automatically begin to convert to the correct format. Once they have been converted, your videos will automatically upload to your RCA Opal.
