C514 has three different values possible. Just use this value as it has worked fine for me in the past. 680pf /2kv Sony part# 1-162-116-00

Burnt out EY34

EY34 is a location near a small blue capacitor that commonly burns up; Location number for the cap should be C514 and the values of it are 1,000 pf (pico farad) at 2 KV (2,000 volt rated).

Often if it is burnt it is the only problem and both Hitachi and Sony used the same identical part in several of their sets.

Let me know if you have questions.

I HAVE A SONY KP-53S65 PROJECTION TV AND I HAVE NO PICTURE OR SOUND. THE POWER STAND-BY LIGHT BLINKS BUT NOTHING ELSE COMES ON. I HAVE READ THE MANUAL WITH NO RESULTS. COULD IT BE THE LAMP? IF SO WHERE DO...

A lot of times when that problem happens, its most likely not the lamp, when the lamp is the issue you can still hear a sound on your TV but no picture, most likely where looking at a problem with your power supply board or ballast, there might be something wrong with them that keeps from sending voltage to the lamp and audio parts, but on the other hand if you wish to change your lamp, depending on the model it can be on the back or sides of the TV, there is a little door with 4 screws that leads to the housing where the lamp is, you just need to pull out the housing and take it apart, its a actually a very easy task, you can have it done in like 5 min. an easier way is to purchase the whole lamp with the housing and just pull the old one and insert the new one in, less than 5 min!! If you have any other question don't hesitate on asking.

When I turn on my sony (KP 53S65) the screen doesn't light up

The most common problem for this TV is a bad capacitor (C514)
Call a good TV Tech and have him check for that first. Should be a $125 job at the most

I don't know if this will help you but I just experienced a similiar problem with a sony kp-53s35.
It turns out that a fluid leaked out of a rubber boot on one of the guns( I have no idea what the fluid is or why it is corrosive), down to a circuit board and started to desolve a jumper wire. when it had eaten away enough of the wire, the residue or solution1.gif was conductive enough to cause an arc to a ground bus bar that ran along the circuit board. The TV still worked but would crack and pop like firecrackers inside.
I was able to increase the distance to the ground source by bending the bar away. Then I scraped and scrubbed the board with contact cleaner to remove residue and replaced jumper wire.
Has worked fine since.
