Blue screen when starting up

When starting the computer the normal HP Blue Screen opens with the , , options on the bottom of the screen, however the computer will not get past this screen and the options on the bottom of the screen will not work. Seems like the computer doesn't want to get going or is locked up somehow. I have tried starting it over and over, unplugging all cords and unplugging the power, all with no luck. Any ideas of what might be going on?

I had the same problem. I was going to replace the motherboard. Checked every connection on motherbaord, including reseting the processor. So far it is now fixed. Will wait a while and look for more solutions before turning it off again. Good luck, please report if you find the problem.

Just double check the keyboard connection if it's ps2 type connector; if it's a usb mouse it won't work cos the drivers have not loaded. Only other solution is to remove right side panel of pc and locate the JBAT1 terminal and move jumper from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for a few seconds and back again. Turn on pc and then hopefully you can access the bios to set the time and date and save settings then re start.

Hi,
This might be an issue with the Hard drive or the operating system installed on the hard drive.
Try to access BIOS screen tapping on F10 on restart.
If you are able to access Bios try to run the Short smart self test on the Hard drive.
To run the test follow the steps as follows:
on the main window you will see 1 st drive 2nd drive 3rd drive 4th drive.
besides these drive letters you will find your Hard drive listed.
Highlight that and press enter.
on the next screen highlight Smart support and press enter.
on the next screen select Short smart self test and run the test.
If it gives an error code that means the hard drive has gone bad.
2)If not then come back on the main page by clicking on ESC button till you come back to the main page.then Press F5 select yes to load set up defaults and press enter.Press F10 once to save configuration changes and press enter.
It will boot to windows.
3)Still if you face the same issue then you need to perform the recovery using the recovery cds.
4)If you don't have the recovery cds then you can contact HP support and order the cds and perform the recovery.
This should resolve your issue.
Thanks.

Compaq Presario Disk Boot Failure, insert sytem disk and press enter

If you have your original Windows install disk, you can boot off of that, and should be able to recover most of your files, assuming your drive has not died fully. Depending on how important your files are, you can send the drive to a drive recovery service. I did that a couple years ago, they were able to recover all my files but it was EXPENSIVE. $1200.
