SOURCE: Windows 98 driver for FreeAgent

If your PC is still running Win98 then it probably has a USB version 1.0 port. I don't think the Faster USB version 2.0 devices will work properly even if you have the correct driver - i.e. you have a hardware version conflict. Try Purchasing a USB version 2.0 Daughter board for the PC and plugging the Seagate drive into that iinstead.

SOURCE: USB port broken in 1TB seagate Freeagent external hard drive

Hi there,

Yes you can just take the hard drive out of the case, can use it with any other case, you can also just put it inside your computer and connect it to the sata cable :)

Heres a case you could use for your drive... Click Here

Many thanks

SOURCE: Seagate External Hard Drive powers down after being idle.

If you load the Free Agent Software, there is a utility for setting the power saving. You can set it to a number of different times including never. The default is 15 minutes. I think this is what you are experiencing. The settings are in the Utilities tab.

SOURCE: I cannot see my free agent external drive

Thanks for your responses...

I've pretty much decided that it must be a hardware problem within the harddrive itself...Can anyone lead me in the right direction to maybe take out the harddrive to put into another external shell in order to hopefully recover my data? Again I'm using a Seagate Freeagent Desktop 500GB external harddrive.

My 500gb ext. seagates freeagent go is not detected in any pc, showing device driver software not fond, white light is blinking repeatedly...... please any solution

The drive is no longer recognized because the controller processor from the board inside it has failed. This is unfixable, the unit is dead. But you could salvage the actual hard disk inside it, it might still be operational and the data on it intact - just take it out and connect it directly inside a desktop.

I have just purchased a Seagate 500GB Desktop hard drive

There is software preloaded on the disk. If you have AutoPlay turned off in your system, it won't start automatically when you connect the drive. Just go to MyComputer and open the drive and you will find a setup file there to install the backup software (I think it's called Launch.exe).
