AS suggested I blew out the area under the door with compressed air and used a DVD laser lens cleaner disk (Memorex from Walmart), I still have the same problem, when you insert the disc it indicates it is loading, then the DVD-Video will not played , The unit plays a CD just fine with good sound quality, the USB port operate fine as well. However the DVD portion will not work. As I typed this message to you it started to work, but it took at least 5 minutes before it began playing the movie. It appears to work just fine now, I will keep trying to work with it. I tried another DVD and it isn't working again, I noticed when it starts to load there is sort on a whining sound just before it plays the movie, could it be something to do with the laser pickup not going into position

I received a reply I didn't want to hear but I guess I'm going to have accept it. This is the second Mintek unit I have the first one was returned for warranty repairs, it was replaced with this smaller 1070 and it ran for about 2 years and now we have problems all over again. I'm rather disappointed with Mintek products I can't even find them on Consumer Reports. Could you please provide me with a repair service and address that I can send this unit to.

Its just the problem of lens getting weak.so its able to read the vcd and not the dvd.its very very rare problem out of 1000 ------1or2 users get this problem what you got. and the lens can be cleaned but cannot be repaired.so instead of replacing the lens.use this device as a standby for imergency to play vcd.and get a new device to play your dvds. thanks.

Hi,
You need to take the unit in for repairs as the DVD reading lense needs to be replaced. The problem cannot be resolved at home , without opening up the unit.

Thanks

How long have you owned the unit and how long has this been happening? Does this happen with all the Mini Discs? Most likely it will require professional service though you may want to consider a used replacement. Once I have more information I can assist you further. Please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,
Lee

CD's and DVD's have a different width track. a DVD's is much smaller, and also it is processed differently. the whining is probably the player spinning at high rpms trying to seek. I would replace the player as a comparable replacement is quite cheap. Unless it is under a year old then you can use the manufacturer warranty. You could have it serviced but it would most likely cost almost as much as a new one.

    Thanks again,

You need to clean the device using compressed air first and then a disk DVD cleaning kit(any walmart etc.). Hopefully the laser just has some debris on it that is preventing it from reading the disk. Open the dvd tray and use the compressed air to blow out the interior. Taking the device apart is not necessary. Then try using the DVD player cleaning kit. Hopefully this will help.

I was given a mintek dvd player model mdp-1770 it is say no disc when there a dvd in it i have tryed recalbreting it by sliding back forth four time then loading a cd but it still reads no disc

If the unit plays CDs but not DVDs, then the LED for DVDs is burned out. There are separate LEDs for CD and DVD operation.
If neither plays, there is a more fundamental problem. In any case, only factory service will correct the problem with your "white elephant".
I have exactly this model.
