When washing a large load of towels sude came up on the screen. then when i tried to do just a rinse cycle to rinse the soap out, another error that said nd came up, whats wrong with it!!!!
If the suds error starts happening suddenly even though you used the same HE detergent and amount that you always have in the past, you probably don't have a excessive sudsing problem, caused by the soap. The most common problem relates to the pump. Some foreign item blocking the inlet of the pump. Foreign objects can make their way down to the pump and either clog the entrance or enter and damage the pump impeller. It is rare for the drain hose to plug up. To diag the problem you have to take off the rear panel, two screws, and the pump is right there. Always unplug the power first. The pump is held down by 3 bolts, 12mm head. Unplug the electrical connector from the pump. Take the squeeze clamps off the hoses at the pump. Have a towell incase of water still in hose. Remove the pump and inspect the pump looking in the inlet pipe you can see the impeller. Look for foreign objects in the pump. A quarter will fit perfectly in the inlet pipe and block the hole almost entirely. I found one in mine. Make sure the impeller is not damaged. Run faucet water in the inlet pipe of the pump, it should freely pore out the exit pipe of the pump. There is a check valve in the exit pipe so you cannot see in there. Take the drain hose outside and run water thru it with the garden hose. Also look in the big rubber pipe the connects to the pump inlet for something stuck in there. That pipe is fat to allow a lot of water to pass out of the drum but it is still possible for something like a tooth pick to start a dam catching other stuff. Reassamble everything carefully, don't forget to plug back in the electrical connector at the pump. Add a small load of clothes and give it a try. This is a simple check and requires a small amount of mechanical ability, so if you don't feel comfortable doing this procedure then call a maytag repairman.
Thank you for the details!
You got it right on!!!!!!!
This was great. Found a quarter in the hose and removed and now it works great!!
This advice was amazingly helpful! We found two guitar picks blocking the inlet pipe. Will be checking pockets more thoroughly in the future. Many Thanks!
This site rocks! I was getting the nd message as well, my husband told to last night to just get rid of this thing and buy him a new one as his christmas present.... well being the handy wife that I am, I went surfing and found this site. I pulled the pump out this morning and cleaned it out. I could not find anything lodged but it was nasty... full of gunk hooked everthing back up and the error message went away. However, it is leaking now, so I have to pull the back off again to make sure I hooked the hoses back up good. Thanks a million!
add 1 more step to thhis repair.while the motor is out remove the hose from the bottom of the washer drum and check it for restrictions.i found my daughters house key stuck in mine
Of course I had the rare drain hose problem. It was clogged by a dime! May also want to mention that once reassembled make sure the hose is held away from the belt. It will wear a hole in it in no time.
Thanks for the details. Got our machine working again. The model we have may be newer and it is easier to clean the pump.
[Model 5000] Take off the three screws holding the panel below the door. Pull the panel down and out. You will see the front of the pump which has a cleanout on it. Unsrew the cleanout counterclockwise. In our machine, there was a safety pin with lint and threads on it. Cleaned this out and washed it in the sink. Replaced the parts and all worked perfectly.
Thanks for the info which made me confident enough to try this myself rather than waiting for the repair man next week.
Had a quarter in it...thanks for the helpful hint....very easy to fix within 45 mins...including cleaning behind the washer.
these were perfect instructions! I can't believe it, you were right on the "money" with the problem. My husband isn't mechanically inclined but we followed what you said and lo and behold, there was a quarter in there! It must've been there for awhile because it was black. After we put everything back in, we ran a load and no problems whatsoever. Great job and you saved us money!
Had the exact same issue and guess what... it was a quarter stuck in the inlet. Seems like a design flaw in the washer if so many of us are running into this. Hardly practical to assume that change will never be left behind in some pants as they are thrown in for a wash. :(
Mine was a presidential dollar stuck in the inlet...(shakes fist) George Washington!
Thanks dadagain!!! It was a quarter!! You saved us a LOT of money on a repairman!!

Rebecca...you have a suds lock. Towels will hold a lot more soap than other laundry. The nd means no drain. The pump had a suds lock. Unplug the machine for a minute. Plug it back in and run a cycle on hot to get rid of the excess soap. Catriver..post back.
Replace the pump or it has a blockage from the filter tray beneath or the main tube from the drum of the machine.
My maytag neptune mah8700a keeps flashing an error sign of E3 what does this mean?
We have this problem as well. I'm calling LG tomorrow to ask for free replacement parts.
But for today, here's a temporary partial solution I want to share....We went to Publix Supermarket here in Florida, and purchased two GE Energy Smart 40 Instant-On Mini flurescent light bulbs. They fit perfectly in the regular appliance bulb slots and they don't get hot at all!
If you decide to try this, make sure you get the Instant-On bulbs. They have regular 40 watt equivalent bulbs that look a lot like them, but they are bigger and not Instant-On. The GE part number for the bulb we purchased is 72465. The total cost with tax was less than $10 including tax for both bulbs.
At least I won't lie in bed tonight wondering if my food is spoiling or if my fridge will burst into flames as I open the door for coffee creamer in the morning!
Hope this helps someone in the interim as they try to get the problem fixed. :)
Good luck all!!!
Sorry, folks! Two appliance problems going on at once. My LG french door fridge lights will not go out when I close the doors at times. Apparently an electronic relay is known for failing in these units. the previous post was my temporary fix.
The SUdS problem in my machine is not suds. The Sears repairman came today and couldn't find the problem. My husband thinks it is the pump. He will take it apart tomorrrow.
Night folks!

Run a cycle with hot water and bleach. This will kill any mold. Also leave the washer door and soap dispenser open to dry out. Water remains in the soap dispenser after washing.
