115 volt 20 amp breaker for hot tub keeps tripping

I installed a 115 volt 20 amp breaker (dedicated) for a hot tub and 4 hours later the breaker keeps tripping. I am looking for suggestions as to why this is happening.

Is there anything else on the same breaker? Is that the proper amperage for the pump? How long has the pump been in service? It may need to be cleaned as possible obstruction causing too much strain.

I have a spa berry 2 person hot tub. Tried resetting it but as soon as I let go of the reset button it trips the breaker. Can't get it to stay on. Tub is 4 yrs old. Where do we start?

Melisa, Breaker/GFI may be going bad. You may have to get an electrician to check for short or faulty motor/heater, etc. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

My hot tub has an issue. Only half the display is working, there's no heat and the jets wont turn on. If I trip the curcit, I can get the hot tub jets for 10-30 seconds and that's it. HELp

Almost all hot tubs use 230 volt AC power which comes from the power company in two power wires plus one common common wire. You get common 115 volts between a common and either other wire. "Half way" working could well be an attempt to run on only one of the wires. There is also likely to be a ground fault circuit breaker in the wiring which makes sure current going out to the tub is all returned via the wires and not through someone's legs to ground. If you're comfortable with an AC voltmeter check some voltages but understand that 230 volts is way into the killing range. Two people present and well insulated probes are important.

Why wont hot tub heat with jets on losing temperature on 110 volt

My first question would be about the outside temperature. What is the outside temperature?
Hot tubs that are designed to operate on 115v only have 1.5kw heaters and if the outside temperature is below 50 deg F they tend to not keep up to 103 deg water while being used. They are also designed to not heat while the high speed pump is operating.
Does it stay up to temperature on a normal basis?

Hello,I have an old jacuzzi vectra II hot tub (1988) 120 volt.the gfci on the unit trips every time the pump is on low speed with the thermostat calling for heat. there is no trip when there is no demand...

hi,

ok so when the pump is on high and the heater is running it doesent trip? you didnt say if it did. undo the heater leads so the pump is isolated completely. run the pump on the control centers gfci and see if it trips. if it does then try wiring directly - with an extension cord to a plug with a gfci in your house and see if it trips the gfci in your bathroom. if no trip inside house then bypass tubs gfci and run it with heater and pump through your bathroom gfci. if no trip then try and replace the tubs gfci, it gets pretty humid in the control center and gfci's have a semiconductor which which do fail after years of rough duty like that. if it trips the gfci in your house with the heater again it has a cracked heater element. craigslist always has old hot tubs and parts. you might have to buy a whole used old hot tub but that may be cheaper than a new heater box.

Running a 220 volt 40amp service for my hot tub.

By code, this would require underground cable to a breaker panel with a double pole GFI (maybe that's what you were planning). Then from the breaker panel to outlets, pumps, etc.

40 amp breaker will require 8 AWG cable.

More info, let me know...

Installed new 2 speed motor olny low works

IF the filter is clean, then your problem is electrical. First make sure you are not using an extenesion cord. These pumps do not work well with a cord over 6ft long. Then make sure that the pump is on a dedicated outlet. No Microwaves, computers competing for power. Most likely the pump is not able to draw enough power and is shutting off.
