Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

Ps3 60gb won't play blue ray movies

My new ps3 60 (BDay present from my hus) will not play blue ray movies. But it will play regular dvd's, even copied ones. The problem is when we put in a Blueray movie it freezes within the first minute or first 20 minutes, and an error code comes up 80029941, or 80029940, or 80029960. I have looked-up all these codes and it varies how to solve. My husband is looking for the demon juice to help him cope. Please I am reaching out to you to. SOS

Exact same prob, though have had the PS3 for almost 2 years, now all of a sudden, freezing during games (error 80010514) or during blurays or not playing them at all. (Error code: 80029941)

It's your blu-ray drive.

They last only 1-3 years with average use. It's a Sony defect.

The laser is three part (cd / dvd / blu-ray). The blu-ray is usually first to go.

Ps3 won't play dvd once it is inserted

Is it a regular DVD? Or a burned one. It is possible, that if it was a burned copy, the format might not be supported. If it is a regular DVD, than only 2 options it could be. The easy one is, check the DVD. Are there any big scratches or smudges that would cause it not to read. If it is a new DVD, than there is a real possibility that your Blue-Ray disk drive is on it's last leg and will need to be replaced.

My ps3 slim won't play games and blue ray disk but I can still play eve movies on it, please help want to try an fix if before nhl 12 hits the stores.

Hi, It sounds like there's an error with the laser that reads blu ray media as PS3 games and blu ray movies are both stored on blu ray disks which is read by a different type of laser then a dvd is read by. There's nothing you could do to fix that on your own, the only fix I've heard of is sending it in to Sony.

Why won't my console play blu-ray movies

The Wii doesnt play Blue-Ray "BD" Movies, only the PS3 does, also the Wii doesn't play DVD's.
You can get the Wii to play DVD's by cracking the system by placing files on a SD Card, but your Wii will never play Blue-Ray movie because the system doesn't have the blue laser in the cd drive, sorry.

Have a nice day

Sony playstation 3 wont play blue ray movies and new games. It still plays regular dvd movies and some older games. Soft ware has been updated.

Hi there, it sounds like your blu ray laser has become faulty. Unfortunately this is a very common problem for the PS3 and there is not much that can be done about it. New lasers can be bought but they are difficult to fix. You could buy a new drive from somewhere like ebay at a cost of around £60. They are much easier to fit than the lasers themselves but you must make sure you keep the circuit board on your blu ray drive and swap it to the replacement drive as this is paired to the motherboard and will not work if it is not with the original motherboard.

Hope this helps you out

Blue rays not playing and screen says no signal

This is blue ray lens failure. this optical Assembly has two separate reading lenses. there is one designated for Cd audio and CD_ROM reading and, the other is blue ray compatible. the blue ray lens in inoperable at this point. you will need to replace this lens assembly.
