Xbox 360 says insert disk when a disk is inside. Reopen tray and insert disk, and it still says inert disk

I ran into this problem once myself. Try altering the orientation of your XBox360 (i.e. if it's vertical, lay it flat & vice versa)

The disk tray will not open

Try slowly opening it with a flathead screwdriver. Get the tray open enough to put ur pinky in and try to remove any disk(s) that are in there. Plug it in and turn it on. If the tray closes ur system should be ok and try to open it with the button. If no good. Then try agian, but this time slowly open it all or most the way, then plug it in and let the drawer close and see if the button works to open and close it.

This is ussaly caused by a jam from either a incorrectly inserted disk and it jammed the tray. Or the gearing that is connected to the motors jamed up and the tray needed to be moved out to unlock the jam.
Closing the tray with ur hand and not pressing the button to close it also could of caused this problem

Disk tray is not spinning

The way to fix this is to open the disk tray and blow inside for about thirty seconds getting the dust out of the way of the laser also blow across the disc tray and the surface of the disk. Then keep closing and opening the tray and it will start to read hopefully. if this does not work go out and buy a disc cleaner. it looks like a disc with sponges on it and when you insert it into the console it cleans the inside for you. Games wont play. Problems with Disk player

If you don't have the tools to open your 360 go to best buy or an office supply store and get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the dvd drive. If that doesn't work then the lens needs to be cleaned with a q-tip and alcohol. This has worked for me on numerous occasions.

Xbox 360 disk tray wont stay shut

My 360 is/was having a similar problem...my 360 would say "reading disc" then "open tray". Well since my system is only about 8 months old...I opted to send it in for repair. Its under warranty. My system is in route to be fixed as we speak. I would advise you to get yours registered too.

Dvd tray does not stay closed when you insert a disc it closes for a little bit then reopens

Hello.

There is either something that prevents the DVD tray from closing, make sure to insert the disc fully in the circle or if it isnt that the rubber belt in the DVD-drive is stretched out and not strong enough to close the tray completely when a disc is inserted, this is a known issue of these drives and often causes the drives not to open properly as well.

You can solve this either by replacing the belt or you can do a little trick which fixes the drive in 90% of the case.
How to do this is shown here: http://xbox-experts.com/e/tutorial.php?n=dvdopentray

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
