Dryer making a grinding noise when turned on. How do you get the top off to check the barrel motor?

Clanging Sound
1. If the noise coming from your dryer can be described as a clanging sound, the solution is probably well within your grasp. This common sound is typically the result of loose debris accidentally put in with the load of laundry. Change may be left in pockets of pants or other objects may be dropped in the laundry basket by children --- perhaps a toy car. The objects may not be noticed when put into the wash, and the water in the washer may have dampened the sound. Simply remove these items, and restart the dryer to resolve the issue.
Sometimes the clanging is from snaps or buttons that are actually part of the clothing. If you are drying a jacket with metal snaps or another garment with metal attached, you should expect this clanging sound as they tumble and strike the inside of the dryer tub.
Humming or Whistling
2. Many Roper dryer models are equipped with a safety feature known as a lint signal, which is usually a light that often accompanies a warning signal, telling the machine owner that the lint trap has become clogged. When the dryer cannot pull adequate air through the lint filter, it can overheat and become a fire hazard. The warning alarm may sound like a hum or whistle to get your attention. Look at the lint signal light, clean out the trap and the noise should stop.
Thumping or Grinding
3. If the noise you are hearing can be described as a thumping sound or a metal grinding sound, the device that turns the dryer drum, known as the drum rollers or glides, can be worn out. As the drum turns, there may be a constant and rhythmic thump each time the drum rotates. A severely worn or broken roller could cause the metal of the drum to rub against the metal housing of the machine, causing a louder grinding noise. The rollers will need to be replaced to remedy the problem.
Squeaking or Squealing
4. Most dryers work by using belts to turn the rollers, which in turn make the drum rotate and tumble the clothes dry. When these belts get loose, a worn belt or a malfunctioning tensioner spring may keep the belt tight. In either case, belt slippage may occur and will produce a squeaking or squealing sound that is easily recognized. The problem is likely to be the tension on the belt since most belts will break before wearing out to this degree.

Rattles when drying

I need more details but typically a dryer will make a rhythmic rattling noise when loose change and other small metallic objects as well as buttons become trapped in the tumbler impellers (those wing shaped things in dryers).
Loosen and remove the top of your dryer.
Rotate your drum, taking care not to rotate it the wrong way. The right direction of rotation will produce friction to the belt, the wrong direction will cause slack on the belt on one side or the other of the drum.
Rotate the drum until the back side of the impeller is directly on top with the outer screws facing you at the top of the dryer. Remove the screws and pull out the impeller and you will find your noise makers. Do this with the remaining impellers and reinstall.

Loud grinding noise when spinning. So I layed the machine down on its front to work on it. I loosened the belt, and then removed the lint catcher pump. I cleaned the pump by flushing and reverse flushing...

Just so you know, in the first place, (NEVER PLACE A WASHING MACHINE IN ANY POSITION BUT UPRIGHT. That's just asking for a leaking gearcase (transmission)! Your best bet is to call a technician. It sounds more like stress on the drivetrain from the water weight! The only way to tell would be to pull the case off to observe the tub as the water fills to see if the tub is indeed pusing downward!

I wana fix the whistling sound coming from the serpintine belt

you probably have a dry bearing, or the bearing is losing its lubrication. Make sure that the sound that you are hearing isn't normal belt noise.

Repairs can be done by yourself. Remove the belt, remove the idler pulley, and take to local bearing shop / machine shop / automotive shop to have new bearing installed.

easy fix... same thing happened to me. take the back part off by the on and off switch and you'll see the loose belt. loosen the single screw next to the smallest pully and adjust tension.

Whistling soung from engine

Take a look at the belt see if it has cracks or worn grooves.. if it dose have it replaced. if it doesn't pull on the belt back and forth see if the tension pully is giving the belt tension( it supposed to be about 1/2 of an inche to an inch or try to turn the belt around to almost half way) if not replace the tensioner pully. if good check the free pully by starting the car and spary a bit of wd40 on the center of the pully if noise disappers replace the free pully. if not see ur local auto shop..

How can i fix this problem ??

Turn the transfer belt by hand to check for any binding or noises. It could also be the fuser rollers causing the noise due to bad bearings since it sits above the transfer belt when it it closed into the machine.

Do you know how to remove the transfer belt to check?

My Bosch Nexxt Essence front load washer is making a knocking and squeaking noise during the whole spin cycle. It sounds like it's coming from the drum mounts - what should we do?

My Bosch Nexxt Essence front load washer will not drain. I changed the lint filter, and insured that the drainage hose was free of debris. I removed all the wet clothes, wrung out the excess water, and redistributed the clothes. Still, no draining or spinning. Initially there was a humming sound, but now there is no sound at all when I try to restart the drain or spin cycles. All the lights are appropriately "on".
