Question about Danner Pond Pondmaster 250 Gph Mag - Drive Pump
I have 2 pondmaster 250s that do not work. The newest one is 3 weeks old. These units were used for the protein skimmer in the filter aquarium (refugium) beneath the big aquarium above. Somtimes the water evaporates and gets dangerously low. This may have happened and the water level was below the pump. I pulled the impeller on the newest one out and it seems to be ok. Did the motor burn up on this unit? Is there a way to tell?
I tried to pull the impeller out of the oldest unit that quit working. The magnetic portion of the impeller seems to be stuck in the the pump. The front portion of the impeller came out.
I will definitely install a float switch to shut the pump off in the future when the water gets too low. It is not that critical to keep this pump running all the time. I don't want to have to buy a new pump everytime the water gets a little low.
Pondmaster 250 comes with a 3 year manufacturer warranty you should just exchange it for a new one. Overheating from low water sounds like the issue but as long as the shaft and housing are not scarred from debris they will replace without any questions
