My 2000 430E Audio suddenly came up with CODE I tried to enter numbers and it won't remove the CODE. I purchased the car second hand and they did not include the code sheet for the radio. Any suggestions...

Hi Gal in PA...

The word CODE is displayed if the radio is removed or if the battery is disconnected. You'll need to do one of the following to get the radio code:
1. Call or go to your local MB dealership. They may or may not provide this to you free of charge.
2. Email MB USA customer assistance. (I found a post online where someone did this and had success)
http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/#/contactusOverview/

Either way, you'll need your VIN.

I'm surprised your catalytic converter needs to be replaced with so few miles. If your dealer is telling you this, I suggest a second opinion. Or, post a new question in the car section of fixya.com.

Good luck!

Lost sound through tv/sat mode

Try unplugging all of the equipment for 30 minute to an hour, and see if this fixes it, otherwise, it sounds like the flickering power may have caused a surge in the circuitry of the equipment, causing it to short circuit the digital tuner in the TV.

I OWN A VRX775VD AND I GET AUDIO ONLY WHEN TRYING TO WATCH A DVD.

Hi again,

For some reason, I could no longer post a response back at the Live Session/Chat. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

Nonetheless, with your indulgence I will continue posting here.

There would be two possible reasons why there would be no video on a Clarion VRX775VD.

the first would be the video interface which simply is like the video card of your computer. This rarely go bad but if suspected would require that the unit be removed from the vehicle's dash and repair works carried out on a workbench.

The second would be the backlight. You can actually verify this by playing a video DVD/VCD preferably at night and with a flashlight, shine a light on the screen. If you see semblance of the movie, then you have just confirmed it to be a bachlight issue.

Backlight could then further be wither the CCF lamps (cold cathode florescent) or the inverter. The CCF lamps are similar to the long thin lamps used in laptop displays. The inverter on the other hand is a PCB that houses the component that converts your car's 12VDC into a high voltage high frequency power that supplies the CCF.

All of course require the services of a qualified professional. If you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), pls post back.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

1995 V.W PASSAT

Hi,

If I understand your post right, you have the code but need the procedure on how to input/enter it into the radio. To my understanding, a 1995 Volkswagen Passat would have a non-BOSE unit with or without CD changer controls. It was a premium sound system with anti-theft coding.

Pls try:
1. Power the radio ON till "SAFE" is displayed;
2. Press the AM/FM and SCAN buttons simultaneously till display shows "1000". (In some versions, it is the seek and the two scan buttons);
3. Release the AM/FM and SCAN buttons;
4. Enter your security code using the first four station buttons on the radio;
5. The first button changes the first number of the four digit code;
6. The second button changes the second number and so on and so forth;
7. Once the proper code has been entered press the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time and hold until the radio accepts the code;
8. You have two tries before the system will lock you out for an hour;
9. Should you happen to have a three digit code, pls make the first digit a zero;
10. The first digit can only be 1 or 0 (the 0 will not show up so for a zero, push the button until the 1 disappears).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi again... the best I have come up with so far is a list of codes to try that have worked for others with the same problem as you. go through them all, and if you still have no success, then get back to me here and I shall look further for you.

This worked on a 2004 with the CD/MP3 deck. Others have reported success with these codes

2253, 3116, 3451, 2152, 4362, 4316

3241, 4524, 5436, 5813, 3265, 5624
2453, 3462, 3251, 5445, 8253, 1156
2346, 4853, 6645, 5253, 1325, 4136
3116, 3221, 2151, 5312, 2654, 4314

Good luck
